For the first time, the CAHEC Foundation partnered with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina to provide nutritional summer meals to the underserved children in our communities. Eight CAHEC-sponsored properties signed up to become "host sites" for the program, providing youth under the age of 18 a healthy lunch and snack three times a week. Nearly 300 children participated in the summer meal program this year, and over 2,300 meals and snacks were provided to residents in communities we serve.

Chapel Ridge Apartments, a property in Roanoke Rapids, NC, turned one of their lunches into a back-to-school event during the last week of the summer. Turnout was impressive, with nearly 160 children gathering on site in a single day to receive school supplies, lunch, and a snack. Shereta Bullock, the property manager at Chapel Ridge, shared that "it was great to see so many children in the community come out for the event."

Since most low-income students qualify for free or reduced lunch during the school year, extra food expenses are not included in many family's summer monthly budgets. This added meal expense can be stressful, thus making these summer feeding programs so beneficial.

Our Mission in Action

CAHEC was proud to be part of the dedication ceremony for Sienna Apartments, a 76-unit new construction LIHTC community in Morganton, NC. The onsite computer and fitness equipment, provided by CAHEC's Technology Resource and Rex Williams Wellness Grants, will be great amenities for the residents to use.

The business center at City Lights Apartments in Atlanta, GA, is all set up for the residents to use. CAHEC's Technology Resource Grant provided one desktop computer, a printer/scanner, and two computer chairs.

We appreciate the feedback we receive from our property managers. In a recent Rex Williams Wellness Center survey, one manager stated that "the residents use the wellness center to have group sessions - they meet once or twice a week and enjoy the health benefits the center provides!" CAHEC's wellness initiatives are making a positive difference in the lives of residents!

CAHEC is more than a provider of equity financing. We are committed to being a relevant presence within the communities we serve by supporting a number of initiatives that provide sustainable opportunities such as loans, grants, and our unique Community Investments to our partners. C3P Training with Spectrum Seminars

CAHEC has teamed up with Spectrum Seminars to offer a two-day C3P Training Seminar at the American Tobacco Campus, located in Durham, NC. Steve Rosenblatt of Spectrum Seminars will be leading this highly-acclaimed training on LIHTC Compliance, which will cover everything from the program basics to rent calculations and utility allowances. The seminar will conclude with the C3P Certification exam.

The 2016 CAHEC Partners Conference dates are set! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, May 16 and Wednesday, May 17, 2017, and join us as we celebrate CAHEC's 25th anniversary. We're pleased to announce that the 2017 event will be held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina. We're looking forward to providing a fresh and exciting conference at this new venue!
