CAHEC Foundation Awards $20,000 in Scholarships

Earlier this week, the CAHEC Foundation had the opportunity to partner with  Drew Charter School , one of CAHEC  New Markets Tax Credit  investments  in Atlanta, GA, to sponsor four $5,000 scholarships for their graduating class of 2018. As part of the application process, students were asked to write an essay showing how they exemplify their school Norms: show respect, act responsibly, present professionally, and honor trust. After much deliberation over the many applicants, four students were selected as the 2018 Norms Scholarship recipients: Jayla Thrash, Kaitlyn Taylor, Naomi Ray, and Thiago Pena McCoy.

The CAHEC Foundation had the honor of attending the awards ceremony on May 1, and the four recipients were thrilled to hear their names called. "The looks on their faces were priceless," explained Stefanie Lee, Community Relations Specialist for the CAHEC Foundation. "These students all worked extremely hard to submit the best essay possible, and  now they have a $5,000 scholarship to attend college in the fall. I can only imagine how excited they felt as their names were announced. This is a wonderful start to their educational journey and we're honored to be a part of it."

Congratulations to the class of 2018!

Disaster Relief Initiative

Last December, the CAHEC Foundation launched a Disaster Relief Initiative to offer support to residents during a time of crisis. Earlier this year, several residents at Wesley Landing Apartments in Wilson, NC, were displaced. Due to flooding and loss of electricity, six families lost everything in their refrigerators.

The CAHEC Foundation was proud to award each household a $200 Food Lion gift card to help replace food items that were lost. "I want to thank the CAHEC Foundation for working with us to help the residents at Wesley Landing," said Frankie Pendergraph, owner of Pendergraph Management. "The residents were thrilled to receive this assistance!"
