CAHEC Foundation Sponsors 500,000 Meals
During COVID-19 Pandemic

Toward the end of March, food banks throughout our footprint were beginning to see the impacts the coronavirus was leaving on the communities they serve. The demand for food assistance steadily increased throughout the country while food banks faced a shortage of donations and volunteers every month. On top of that, most schools converted to a virtual setting, forcing summer breaks to start earlier than usual. Ultimately, this created a surge for most food banks and the need for donations was greater than ever before.

Since the CAHEC Foundation has always supported food banks through our Nutrition Assistance Initiative, and because we offer a Disaster Relief Initiative to residents, we thought that combining these two resources would be a great way for us to give back. Our goal was to determine the food banks that served the highest number of CAHEC residents and then donate toward their summer childhood nutrition programs. "It's important for us to continuously evaluate our initiatives and shift funding where the needs are greatest," explained Stefanie Lee, Community Relations Specialist for CAHEC. "In this scenario, supporting the organizations who provide these essential services was an important step towards us meeting a critical need."

The CAHEC Foundation was proud to donate $100,000 to provide over 500,000 meals to the following food banks:
