Exploring Power

"Power is not inherently good or bad—rather, its value depends on its locus, purpose, and manifestation. Perceiving power as “bad” can limit our ability to recognize that we have a role to play in pivoting its use toward good purposes.

Systems change is inherently about leveraging and shifting power within a system to bring about any desired change."

Youth Prevention
REACH Leads
In January, Annie and Carri nominated five REACH youth members to be a part of a new youth-led FACT group, REACH Leads.
REACH Leads met every other week, from February to April, to focus on learning various leadership and coalition-building skills through fun, interactive activities led by Carri. Starting in May, REACH Leads will plan and implement a substance misuse prevention activity at all monthly REACH Youth events.
REACH Leads members are quickly becoming role models for their peers in Calumet County!
REACH Youth Honor Earth Day
REACH’s April Youth Event honored Earth Day, with a specific focus on how substance use can negatively impact the environment.

They spent the day collecting garbage and cigarette butts at various Calumet County parks before enjoying an earth-inspired snack - "dirt cups with worms".
REACH Celebrates Successful Alcohol Age Compliance Checks
Alcohol Age Compliance Checks (AACC) in Calumet have come a long way in four short years! Since gaining Drug Free Community grant status in 2019, REACH has supported AACC’s as an important evidence-based practice to reduce alcohol availability to minors.

In 2019, AACC compliance rates were 63%. Today, they’re 89%. We are so grateful to all our local establishments who are committed to keeping kids safe and preventing underage drinking. Please join us in thanking each of them by liking and sharing our appreciation posts! Look for those on our official REACH Facebook page next week.
We all play a role in keeping the next generation safe and healthy
The REACH Alcohol Committee has teamed up with several organizations to pilot a program that helps temporary alcohol license holders check IDs and provide wristbands to purchase and consume alcohol. As a part of the pilot, REACH will provide ID scanners, ID reading training, signage and wristbands to partherning organizations.

Requiring wristbands to purchase and consume alcohol is an evidence-based practice to reduce alcohol availability to minors. Something REACH takes to heart.
We look forward to seeing you out at these events:
  • Stockbridge Booster Club Softball, Rookie Ball and T Ball League Games, May-August, Stockbridge Park
  • Hilbert Cheese Derby, June 8, Hilbert Civic Park (St. Mary’s Parish, Brillion FFA Alumni and Hilbert Fire Department
  • Hilbert 4th of July Celebration, July 4, Hilbert Civic Park (Hilbert Fire Department)

Stop by to say hi and thank the organization for keeping our youth safe and healthy!
Tobacco Prevention
Thank you for supporting tobacco prevention
CAHL would like to extend a special note of gratitude to the 13 volunteers who shared with the 2023 Joint Finance Committee, why tobacco prevention is important to them.

While it may not seem like much to write a letter, it is small efforts like these that have the biggest impact.

Thank you for your tireless support!
Tobacco Compliance Checks Results
CAHL has conducted 176 compliance checks across our 10 counties. Thank you to the multiple law enforcement agencies and youth volunteers who make this possible.

Keeping tobacco out of kids' hands remains our #1 priority. We're glad to see education efforts pay off with reduced sales in most areas and will continue to provide training and enforcement for those who do sell to kids.
