JOB DESCRIPTION: CAIR-CA seeks an energetic professional to manage the daily internal office operations including accounting, human resources, provide project management and coordination. The ideal candidate will play a central role in developing, coordinating and managing membership and fundraising campaigns for CAIR-SV. The candidate must have the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Candidate must be comfortable working productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The role requires excellent communications and managerial skills to interface with community leaders, donors, the media, staff, interns and volunteers in a professional, effective manner. Candidate should be flexible with changing job requirements as the team grows. Some work on evenings, weekends, and travel will be required. This position reports to the CAIR-Sacramento Valley Executive Director.

 

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree and experience working with a nonprofit organization or in a related field
  • Two years of office management preferred
  • Substantive organizational and supervisory skills
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (QuickBooks a plus)
  • Strong initiative and the ability to learn in a self-directed manner
  • Organizational skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Comfortable working productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Strong commitment to civil rights and CAIR's mission

The role requires excellent communications and managerial skills to interface with clients, community leaders, donors, the media, staff and volunteers in a professional, effective manner. The Council on American-Islamic Relations - California (CAIR - CA) is looking for a passionate and talented individual to fill the full-time CAIR - CA Chapter Coordinator position. This position is to be filled immediately.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

The CAIR - CA Chapter Coordinator will be responsible for building and developing the capacity of CAIR - CA's current work by coordinating and streamlining operational infrastructure across four offices. The position is also responsible for ensuring that CAIR - CA offices are in compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Responsibilities include:

 

I.                   Fostering relationships and collaborations between CAIR - CA four offices

  • Enhancing and developing effective and efficient inner-office communication.
  • Identifying and sharing best practices in various fields (CAIR - CA office to office, CAIR - CA Chapter to CAIR - National).
  • Increasing professional development opportunities for staff, Executive Committees, and CAIR - CA Board of Directors.
  • Designing and implementing training and orientation programs for all new staff.

 

II.                Cultivating efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance to organizational functions across four CAIR - CA offices

  • Empower current offices to maintain a high standard of competence.
  • Supporting CAIR - CA Board of Directors with implementing tactical plans.
  • Streamlining processes and program schedules across all CAIR - CA offices.
  • Working with CAIR - CA Board to review, create, and implement department policy manuals across all CAIR - CA departments.
  • Researching or creating resources and tools that maximize chapter success.

 

III.             Methods of means by which to achieve goals

  • Increasing department professional development opportunities
  • Collaborating with CAIR - CA Board subcommittees to review, create, and implement necessary policies.            

This position will report to CAIR - CA Board of Directors with some reporting to Executive Directors.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • A college degree, (Business or related field is preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in nonprofit sector.
  • Proven mastery of Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and QuickBooks.
  • Knowledge of best practices for nonprofit operation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and managerial skills to interface with staff, board members, community leaders, volunteers, and donors in a professional and effective manner.
  • Organizational skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to handle multiple tasks while working under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Willingness and flexibility to change job requirements as the team grows.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with staff and board members.
  • Experience offering presentations and trainings to audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accountability and to work independently while functioning as part of a coordinated management team.
  • Measurable experience in project implementation and budget management.
  • Candidate must live in California and be able to work from one of the four offices.

CAIR-CA Staff Accountant    
Council on American-Islamic Relations - California (CAIR - CA) is looking for a full time 'Staff Accountant' who will be working closely with CAIR - CA's four bookkeepers as well with CFO & Tax Solutions, an accounting firm.

 

Job Purpose

The Staff Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information and prepare financial statements in conformity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for assigned offices/divisions. Manage the month end closing process. Prepare journal entries with proper supporting documentation. Ensure all deadlines are met. Analyze for discrepancies and solve or escalate any issue which may arise.

 

General Ledger - Ensure accurate and appropriate recording of revenue and expenses. Uses knowledge of accounting principles/GAAP as well as understanding of business operations to determine appropriateness of transactions. Proactively investigate and resolve discrepancies. Research and explain account fluctuations. Design financial reports and collaborate with other teams to implement needs. Make recommendations to Controller for streamlining of and improvement.

 

Intercompany - Record and reconcile all intercompany transactions. Work closely with bookkeepers from the other divisions to ensure balances net out to zero companywide at month end.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years of private industry experience or a combination of public/private
  • Excellent time-management skills with demonstrated ability to work with multiple projects and meet assigned deadlines
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills as well as attention to detail
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal direction to accomplish objectives
  • Intermediate to advanced PC skills, including a strong understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Must present a professional image and be able to represent the company in a professional manner
  • This position will involve working in two Orange County offices with some travel to all four CAIR - CA offices throughout the year.
