(Miami, FL – 1/15/19)
The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations today condemned Hallandale Commissioner Annabelle Lima-Taub’s Facebook Islamophobic statements alleging that Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib might ‘blow up’ Capitol Hill.
The Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that “…[a] Jewish commissioner from Hallandale Beach has accused a Muslim congresswoman from Michigan of being an anti-Semite who might ‘…blow up Capitol Hill.’” The report continues to state that Hallandale Commissioner Lima-Taub signed an online petition seeking to remove Congresswoman Tlaib from office and posted the petition on her personal Facebook page stating, “She [Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib] is a danger and (I) would not put it past her to become a martyr and blow up Capitol Hill.”
CAIR-Florida Communications Director Wilfredo Ruiz stated, “Holding a public office comes with great responsibilities. Xenophobic stereotypes shall not be embraced by any elected official. CAIR-Florida strongly condemns the disgraceful racist and Islamophobic statements published by Commissioner Annabelle Lima-Taub. Her un-American, xenophobic statements establish
that she is unfit to hold the Commissioner’s seat. She must apologize immediately and follow up with her resignation.”
