Trainees may apply for travel awards to offset the cost of attendance. The pre-meeting for trainees and early-stage investigators will take place Wednesday morning, December 9.

Gilliam Fellows Program

Howard Hughes Medical Institute


$65K / y for 3y. Supports 2nd or 3rd year PhD students and their faculty thesis advisors in advancing cutting-edge research and fostering inclusive scientific training environments, while supporting the transition to postdoctoral scientist. Must be US citizen, US permanent resident, an individual who has been granted temporary permission to stay in the US (e.g., DACA) or an international student legally eligible to study at and receive funding from their graduate institution. Must have >2 full years of PhD study remaining on award start date. Applications open September 1, 2026 and close October 27, 2026.

Support for predoctoral investigators to complete doctoral research training and transition to mentored postdoctoral career development opportunities. 1-2y support for predoctoral (F99) phase and 3y support for postdoctoral (K00) phase. Must be citizen or a non-citizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence.

Transition to Independence Grant

KidneyCure


$100K / y for 2y to support clinical and basic science projects examining any aspect of the entire spectrum of kidney biology and disease. Must have received terminal research degree within last 10 years or clinical degree within last 12 years. Must have full time faculty appointment. Open to active members of the American Society of Nephrology working in North or Central America, or the Caribbean during the grant period (no citizenship requirements). App due 11/19/26.

Opportunity Pool Awards

Stanford University O'Brien Urology Center



Up to $100K in Direct Costs for up to 1 y. Project dates are 1/01/2027-12/31/2027. Applicants must be: (1) early stage or new investigators (per NIH definition), (2) current K Scholars, or (3) established investigators new to urology research. Applications related to benign prostatic hyperplasia are accepted. Projects should aim to generate preliminary data that may be used for future grant applications and testing high risk/high reward concepts.

Up to $100K in Direct Costs for up to 1 y. Project dates are 2/01/2027-1/31/2028. Applicants must be: (1) early stage or new investigators (per NIH definition), (2) current K Scholars, or (3) established investigators new to urology. Applications should be related to:

  • Cellular and transcriptional pathways that drive cell type differentiation, inflammation, and mitochondrial functions in the urothelium;
  • Heme detoxification and iron sequestration in bacteriostasis and in urothelial cell viability;
  • Antimicrobial resistance in UTI; and/or
  • Genetic and embryological causes of obstruction and other urinary tract diseases.

American Urological Association


For calendar year 2027, 2 awards up to $60K each will support salaries and other research-related expenses for independent investigators. Ideal candidates are scientists or clinicians who are (1) navigating federal funding delays, (2) needing to resubmit to non-funding agencies for continuation, or (3) prior AUA or career development awardees who are ready to become or who are already independent investigators. Applications due 10/6/26.

Biocodex Microbiota Foundation



Supports research elucidating how the penile microbiome contributes to vaginal dysbiosis, including bacterial vaginosis. Areas of interest include microbial transmission dynamics during sexual activity, niche adaptation and persistence of BV-associated taxa in the penile environment, and the functional consequences of these interactions for vaginal community stability. Studies evaluating how current and emerging interventions alter penile microbial ecology and influence treatment response and recurrence risk in female partners also encouraged. €200K / y for 3y nax for MDs, PhDs or Pharm-Ds working in gynecology, obstetrics, microbiology, infectious diseases, internal medicine, oncology, etc. For basic or clinical research conducted in any country. NIAID Clinical Trial Implementation Cooperative Agreement (U01 Clinical Trial Required)

NIAID/NIH


Supports investigator-initiated, milestone driven clinical trials that need enhanced oversight, and as applicable, include mechanistic studies. Support is available for clinical trials up to 5 years, as well as for extended clinical trials of 6- or 7-years. Only one clinical trial may be proposed in each NIAID Clinical Trial Implementation Cooperative Agreement (U01) application. Standard due dates (Feb, Jun, Oct 5); exp 7/6/29.

CAIRIBU is a community of NIDDK-funded U54 and P20 Urology Centers and K12 Institutional Career Development Programs whose overarching objectives are to address gaps in knowledge related to epidemiology, etiology, development, progression, and expression of non-malignant urologic conditions and to train the next generation of leaders in urology research. The CAIRIBU Interactions Core is the central coordinating body for the CAIRIBU Community.
