Making History: INL and ISU Alumni Establish an Archive

A history degree is only good for someone who wants to go into teaching, right? Three archivists working at Idaho National Laboratory are proving that myth wrong.

Christa White and Alana Haack, working with their supervisor and mentor, Certified Archivist Austin Schulz, are doing important historical work in creating an archives program to capture the history of Idaho National Laboratory.

Auction Link

The Department of Art will host its annual Art a la Carte Silent Auction online offering artwork donated by faculty, students, and alumni to raise funds for art student scholarships.

“There is something for everyone in our Art a la Carte auction this year,” Naomi Velasquez, chair

of the Department of Art, said. “Faculty, students, alumni and community members have

donated more than artwork ranging from paintings and prints to jewelry and wearables.”

In addition to being a great opportunity for the community to see and procure some of the art

from the department, the auction will provide funds to help student artists break down some of

the cost barriers associated with pursuing an art education.

“In addition to books and tuition, art students also need materials and tools to create artwork,

so this helps our students learn and create,” Velasquez said.

Auction artwork may be previewed in person in the John B. Davis Gallery on the 1st floor of the

ISU Fine Arts Building. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 12-6PM. The opening art exhibition

reception for the auction will be held on February 7, 2023 from 6-7pm.

Giving high school students a taste of higher education

Dr. Watkins Presents to Sho-Ban High School

Dr. Watkins, Professor of English, gave a presentation to juniors and seniors at Sho-Ban High School, going over the basics of a resume and how students could begin to create their own resumes while still in high school.

Sho-Ban English teachers Tomin and Baldwin had invited Watkins to give a presentation to their students. Tomin and Baldwin were recent students in one of Watkins' classes at ISU who thought their high school students could benefit from his presentation.
