The Horticulture Program at Pickens Technical College is looking for arborists to speak on February 16th at their Arborist Chat. It would be to speak at two classes; the first runs from 7:50 to 10:40am and the second from 12:05 to 2:55pm. We are excited to engage college students in the arborist industry. They are also looking for guest speakers to present about arboriculture at a couple of classes that are held Tuesday through Friday February 14 – March 24. The goal of the class is to provide students with a basic understanding of what goes into being an arborist. Topics can range from safety, to common tree pests, equipment used, identification of hazardous trees and any other topic you may want to present about. For guest speakers there are two classes - the morning runs from 7:50am to 10:40am and the afternoon is 12:05pm to 2:55pm. Having someone speak at both classes on the same day would be the easiest but if it needs to be split for the two days that is okay. Water is vital to plants. Without it we wouldn’t have any trees or shrubs. This is especially true in Colorado. Did you know that most of the Front Range is considered a high plains desert? What exactly is a high plains desert? It’s a cold, semi-arid environment that receives up to 20” of rain annually. It is also common to experience huge temperature swings. Combined with wild weather events, this creates an extremely stressful environment for our trees and shrubs to survive. This is exponentially true during our warm, dry, windy winters.
