Call to Action!

The Florida Legislature is yet again attempting to work around the constitutional class-size amendment by codifying the current practice of school districts to utilize a school-wide average to determine class-size penalties.
To make matters worse, these bills (HB 591/SB 808) completely eliminate the reporting requirements that have been in place since the amendment took effect in 2002.
The public has a right to know whether their schools, traditional, charter or schools of choice, are in compliance with the amendment regardless of how the penalty is determined.  Each classroom counts!
Please contact the bills' sponsors and ask them to amend their bills to reinstate the reporting requirements for each class out of compliance.

Here's a letter to be sent to the to the house committee members and the bill's sponsors:

Dear Florida House Education Committee Members -

On Thursday morning, March 23, 2017, you will be voting on HB 591 (Maximum Class Size).

The Florida Legislature and school districts are yet again attempting to work around the constitutional class-size amendment by codifying the current practice of school districts of utilizing a school-wide average to determine class-size penalties.

These bills must be amended to reinstate the reporting requirements on a classroom basis otherwise there is no transparency or accountability.

Sincerely,
