Dear New York Member of the SBTC:
Last, week, the SBTC responded to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's threat to
who ignore his weather related NYS Thruway & Interstate Highway truck ban without considering the impact of his ban on the safety of commercial motor vehicle drivers.
We are now asking our members based in New York to call and email the the state legislative contacts listed below to express your outrage over Cuomo's bullying of CMV drivers to the legislative branch of New York Government.
We have already set the stage and have contacted the Transportation Committees in the NY State Senate and Assembly and have voiced the SBTC's concerns on behalf of our 15,000 members.
We are now asking you to echo our complaint by highlighting these two bullet points:
- The Federal Highway Administration reports that New York is state with a significant CMV parking deficiency.
- The Governor's practice of shutting down trucks from certain roadways jeopardizes CMV drivers safety considering a lack of safe truck parking in the state. We ask you to note that the U.S. Dept. of Labor compiles statistics which show that more than 600 workers in interstate transportation have been
on the job over the past decade alone. Often this is due to CMV drivers having to park in unsafe locations.
Please email and/or call the following state legislative officials and back us up advising you are a motor carrier and/or a CMV driver based in New York and you object to Governor Cuomo's flagrant bullying tactics and wanton disregard for CMV drivers' safety:
Rick Rodgers- Director of Transportation Policy
Tim Ragazzo- Policy Advisor for Ranking Member
Craig Swiecki- Clerk of Assembly Transportation Committee
Jennifer Sherman- Legislative Director for McDonough's Albany office
Please cc email@example.com on your email to these state officials so they know you are with us.
