The North Texas Ballet Folklórico Contest was established in 2019 to provide an opportunity for schools in North Texas with Ballet Folklórico programs to be evaluated by experts, researchers, and educators in the field of Folklórico Dance. This contest allows us to measure and celebrate the growth of our students and programs.
What began as a local effort has evolved into something much greater. As we continue to expand and connect with educators across Texas, it has become increasingly vital that we:
- Continue our advocacy for cultural representation in education. This work not only honors heritage but also empowers our students, promotes inclusion, and recognizes the artistic and academic discipline embedded in ballet folklórico dance.
- Educate other organizations, stakeholders, and decision-makers on the academic and cultural impact of Ballet Folklorico in public and private schools.
- Work towards the legitimization and recognition of Ballet Folklórico as a UIL-sanctioned activity.
Join the movement. Show your support. Be a part of history.
1. Post a picture of yourself or your students in folklórico costumes and use the hashtags
#BalletFolkloricoJourneyToUIL #UIL and #TXDanceAndCulture to show your support and pride!
2. We are gathering signatures in support of making Ballet Folklórico an official UIL-sanctioned event. We've collected hundreds of signatures in just 7 months, and we're not done yet!
Please sign and share this petition with your friends, families, colleagues, and anyone who loves and believes in Ballet Folklórico. https://form.jotform.com/242706254895061
We also invite you to attend the UIL Legislative Council Meeting on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 8:00 AM and show your support in person. Let's make our presence known and our voices heard. Together, we are preserving tradition, celebrating culture, and taking Ballet Folklórico to new heights.
Thank you for walking with us on this journey!
With Gratitude,
