URGENT - Call to Action
April Property Tax Payment Delay Needed
NCRPA Members,

We need your help!

We are asking you to share widely with your email lists and networks to send an email to their state representative and Governor Newsom asking for a property tax payment delay.

If rents are delayed, property taxes should be delayed too!

Local tax assessors only have the discretion to offer forgiveness of late penalties. Authority to order a mandatory deferment of property taxes until the end of the COVID-19 Moratorium on Evictions rests solely with the State of California.

California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a State of Emergency and issued an executive order that allows cities and counties to delay indefinitely rental payments — if local governments vote to do so.

Quarantined from rental income, newly at-risk property owners are not inoculated from paying their property tax payments on time and in full. Property taxes for the first half of 2020 are still due in full by April 10, 2020.

How can property owners even accrue for property taxes for six months when they may not be receiving rental payments for much of this time?

Time to Act is Now. Your phone calls and emails to our legislators are needed immediately!

We need to let Governor Newsom and our state representatives know the relief is needed before the April 10 deadline.
