CALPA Educational Webinar Series
Changing How History is Interpreted in State Parks to be More Inclusive of All Stories
FREE ONLINE EVENT - REGISTER TODAY!

Wednesday, July 20, 2022 @ 1 PM

Throughout the California State Park system, park staff, and partners are grappling with how to interpret previously untold or underrepresented stories in meaningful ways. What can be done when existing park plans exclude or minimize these stories? Over the coming months CALPA will provide opportunities to learn more about this issue through webinars and sessions at the 2022 CALPA Conference.

During this webinar, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a meaningful discussion about historical interpretation. CALPA will be joined by Capital District Superintendent John Fraser to hear about the process underway at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP) to develop a new Interpretation Master Plan. For more than two years the team at Sutter’s Fort SHP has been working to fundamentally change how history is interpreted at Sutter’s Fort SHP. This effort is part of the Reexamining Our Past Initiative underway in California State Parks.

George Loyer (CALPA President) and Ruth Coleman (CALPA and LA River State Park Partners Board Member & Former Director of California State Parks) will serve as moderators.
