The third in a new series of FHWA webinars, Coordinating with Emergency Medical Services to Improve Data Driven Safety Analysis & Traffic Incident Management in Rural Areas will showcase strategies and tools that DOTs and their partners can use to advance the availability and effectiveness of post-crash care efforts.
Strategies include coordination between DOTs and EMS for Traffic Incident Management, prehospital blood transfer, and delivery of effective training to DOT staff. Funding Opportunity: Roadside Pollinator Program
USDOT and FHWA have released the Notice of Funding Opportunity for the Roadside Pollinator Program (RPP), allocating a total of $3.8M for activities that benefit pollinators on roadsides and highway rights-of-way.
The Roadside Pollinator Program was established under Section 11528 of the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act to help promote the creation and protection of pollinator habitats along the nation’s roads and highways.

Compliance Resource: CA MUTCD 2026
Effective January 18, 2026, Caltrans issued its California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices 2026 (CA MUTCD) to provide uniform standards and specifications for all official traffic control devices in California.
The CA MUTCD is the official state standard for the design, installation, and maintenance of all traffic control devices, including road signs, signals, and pavement markings, on California streets and highways. It ensures a uniform and predictable environment for all road users, including motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and persons with disabilities.

The Life-Saving Role of Post-Crash Care
A recent NPR segment highlights a major advancement in trauma care: administering blood transfusions directly at the scene of an emergency rather than waiting until patients reach the hospital. Because severe blood loss is a leading cause of death in trauma cases, early intervention can dramatically improve a patient’s chances of survival.
First responders describe how new portable technologies allow them to safely store and warm blood in the field. Paramedics report near-immediate improvements in patients, with stabilized vital signs and increased responsiveness shortly after transfusions begin.

RSCP: NCRRS Celebrates 59 Graduates
NCRRS is celebrating the graduation of 59 participants of its Road Safety Champion Program (RSCP), including several practitioners who completed training in at least two career pathways.
RSCP is a nationally recognized certification program that provides intensive "Road Safety 101" training through web-based modules that cover the core topics of road safety and road safety within various career pathways.
