NCHRP Research Report:

Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Performance

Newly released "Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Performance Functions" helps to develop safety performance functions (SPFs) for transportation practitioners at all levels to better inform planning, design, and operations decisions.

National crash studies estimate that, while overall annual traffic fatalities are down, the percentage of those involving pedestrians and cyclists are up, with approximately 6,000 pedestrian deaths and 850 bicyclist deaths annually.

This new report presents state DOTs and other transportation professionals with an update of pedestrian and bicycle SPFs.
