FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Westbound U.S. Highway 50 Traffic Shift Scheduled in Sacramento

New Alignment from 39th Street to 24th Street Begins Next Week

SACRAMENTO – Caltrans is continuing work on the $483.5 million U.S. Highway 50 (US-50) Multimodal Corridor Enhancement “Fix50” Project, which includes a long-term traffic shift on westbound US-50 starting Monday, December 2 at 9 p.m. and scheduled through May 2025.

The new traffic shift is required so crews can remove the existing pavement, install drainage, lower the roadway for increased clearance under the overcrossing bridges, and rehabilitate the highway with reinforced concrete pavement on the current #1 and #2 lanes. The traffic shift will be from 39th Street to 24th Street, redirecting traffic to two left lanes and three right lanes. The left two lanes will then split again, with one lane to the left of the concrete median barrier and one lane to the right.

Caltrans advises motorists to be alert for signs indicating the traffic shift to know in advance which lane to take. Motorists looking to use the Stockton Boulevard off-ramp, the northbound and southbound Business 80 connector, and the 26th Street off-ramp need to stay in the far-right lanes.

The project rehabilitating the pavement and adding 14 lane miles of high-occupancy lanes from the US-50/Interstate 5 interchange to the US-50/Watt Avenue interchange, along with drainage improvements, Intelligent Transportation System elements, new signs and striping.

Motorists traveling through the work zone should expect lane restrictions and be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement.
