This decision was made in consultation with the CoC's CAM Transition Team and after reviewing data which showed that CAM was receiving the fewest number of calls during the 5-6pm hour. By making this change, CAM will be able to utilize limited CAM staff during the transition to focus on the busiest call hours of the day, which occur in the morning. This change is intended to be temporary while CAM is in the process of transitioning to a new agency in September.
After 5pm, anyone experiencing homelessness and in need of shelter, can call the CAM phone line for a recorded list of shelters where they can walk into for the night. The phone line also provides an option to receive the list of shelters via SMS text, and it is also available on the CAM website. CAM will continue to coordinate closely with the shelters to contact anyone who walks into shelter for the night.
Please note that this change does not affect access for Veterans experiencing homelessness. Veterans may continue to present in-person at 4646 John R, Red Tower 2nd floor, on Mon., Tues., Thurs. and Fri. 8am-4:30pm, and Wed. 11am-4:30pm or by calling 313-576-1414 during these hours.
