Coordinated Assessment Model

The Coordinated Assessment Model (CAM) process is a referral system designed to be a starting point for people who are experiencing homelessness in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. The goal of the CAM system is to connect people in a fair and equitable way to housing and other related resources as available.

If you are experiencing homelessness and need to get help, the process begins with contacting CAM (313) 305-0311.

Public Housing Waiting Lists Open

The Detroit Housing Commission's Public Housing Waiting Lists opened October 1, 2024

All applicants must apply online at www.dhcmi.org. Applicants must be 18 years of age or a legally emancipated minor at the time of wait list application. You MUST have an active email address in order to apply.

Detroit Home Connect

Detroit Home Connect is a new City of Detroit service that provides you a central first step in finding housing in Detroit that meets your affordability and household needs. You can understand your eligibility for rental units by exploring options based on your family size, age, and income. Detroit Home Connect is an initiative of the City of Detroit’s Housing and Revitalization Department.

Livonia Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List

The Livonia Housing Commission's waitlist will be opening Monday, Jan. 13, 2025 at 8am through Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025 at 5pm.

To successfully apply, you will need to provide the Livonia Housing Commission with the following information:

First and last names of ALL members of your household
Social security numbers and birthdates of ALL members of your household
Total gross annual income of everyone in your household. This includes wages, child support, Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), General Assistance and Unemployment Income.
A valid mailing address and email address. Accurate information must be submitted in order to contact applicants if they are selected in the lottery.

Upcoming Closures

December 20

All CAM services will be closed. Regular operating hours will resume the following Monday.

December 24 - 25

In observance of the Christmas holiday, CAM will closed December 24 and December 25. Regular operating hours will resume the following day.

December 24 - January 2

CAM services at the NOAH Access Point will be closed from December 24 to January 2. Regular operating hours will resume the following Monday, January 6.

December 31

In observance of the New Year holiday, CAM will closed December 31, 2024 and January 1, 2025. Regular operating hours will resume the following day.

Temporary HCV Waitlist Closure

HAND received notification from MSHDA that, effective July 1, 2024, all Housing Choice Voucher waitlists have been temporarily closed. Unfortunately, no reopening date has been provided at this time. During this period, no new submissions or recertifications will be accepted. The Detroit Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) program will be closed until further notice. Please note that this closure does not impact the following MSHDA programs: Project-Based Vouchers and Stability Voucher program.

What to expect?

If you are experiencing a housing crisis and are in need of somewhere safe to stay, you can get assistance by contacting CAM.

What is changing?

Moving forward, only households on the “need shelter list” will be considered for a shelter referral. As shelter space becomes available, CAM will refer households based on immediate safety concerns and risks.

*Due to limited availability, some shelters are not accepting walk-ins overnight. Please call CAM (313) 305-0311, Monday - Friday between 8 am - 6 pm to speak to someone who can advise on shelter availability and/or other options. Please note that available shelter beds are limited and change daily. *

Street Outreach

If you see a person experiencing unsheltered homelessness, you can request a Street Outreach Team to connect the person to our homelessness response system to be assessed for needs and connected to resources as they are available. You can access the online form here or by scanning the QR code on this flyer.

Events

Join Detroit Parks and Recs for their Annual Breakfast with Santa on December 14th at the Adams-Butzel Recreation Complex. There will be food, ice skating, music, a photobooth, arts and crafts, and more.

Registration is required. Contact your local recreation center for tickets.

Join Second Ebenezer Church for a Coat Giveaway on Saturday, December 14th from 10am to 1pm.

Families will be given coats, gloves, hats, and socks. Coats are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Enjoy Santa Day at Heilmann Recreation Center on Saturday, December 14th, from 12pm to 4pm.

Guests can expect photos with Santa, free lunch, games, crafts, cookie decorating, music, and more. Bring your family and friends to enjoy all the festive fun. No RSVP or pre-registration necessary

A Holiday Toy Giveaway will be taking place on Tuesday December 17th at 4pm at the Joseph Walker Williams Recreation Center. No registration required. Children must be present in order to receive toys while supplies last.

December 21 at 11am, a Toy Giveaway will be taking place at Core City Neighborhoods. Child must be present. For more information contact Lillie Skinner at (313)894-8431.

December 17th at 10am, the Secretary of State Mobile Office will be visiting Corktown Health to provide services to residents to complete all of their Secretary of State transaction needs.

My Safe Space Crisis Hotline (313) 844-9136

The My Safe Space Crisis Hotline serves young adults ages 18-24. It connects youth experiencing housing and mental health crises to short-term mental health services.

The Mobile Crisis Hotline provides increased accessibility to DWIHN services in the Wayne County area. Calling the hotline will get a mobile crisis unit to your location 24/7/365. Call (844) 462-7474 for help.
Community Care Clinic - DWIHN is accepting members for outpatient behavioral health services. You can call (800) 241-4949 for a screening and referral.
