Tricia Ruby of Ruby + Associates Wins National Service Award
Congratulations to CAM Board Member Tricia Ruby, president/CEO of Ruby + Associates, who recently received a 2019 Community Service Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). The award recognizes a principal or manager of an ACEC member firm who has made a significant contribution to the quality of life in their community. 

Since Ruby became CEO in 2011, Ruby + Associates has donated over $450,000 to local Detroit-area and national charities and has supported her staff’s 750-plus hours of volunteer time with compensation for giving back outside the office. Among other efforts, Ruby and her staff have sponsored and participated in Life Remodeled, a non-profit that provides $5 million and over 10,000 volunteers to beautify a Detroit neighborhood each year over six days of renovations and home repairing.
Careers in Energy Week Highlights In-Demand Job Opportunities
During Careers in Energy Week, October 14-18, Michigan schools and energy companies open their doors for tours, hands-on activities, demonstrations and other events.

Now in its sixth year, the week is sponsored by the Michigan Energy Workforce Development Consortium (MEWDC), which includes DTE Energy, Consumers Energy, API, Great Lakes Energy, Michigan Electric and Gas Association (MEGA), Lansing Board of Water & Light, and more than 50 industry, workforce and education partners.

Oliver/Hatcher Raises $145,000 for C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital
Oliver/Hatcher raised $145,000 for  C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital   during its 13 th  charity golf outing at Meadowbrook Country Club in Northville in September. Detroit Tiger legend Kirk Gibson delighted golfers and guests as he spoke during a reception immediately following play.

The outing benefited Mott’s department of Child and Family Life. In addition to the annual golf outings, the company actively supports Mott’s adopt-a-family initiative and participates in monthly group volunteer visits to the hospital. Since 1998, proceeds from their events have raised more than $946,000 for the hospital.
Amendment to Part 11. Recording and Reporting of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses
MIOSHA has amended Construction Safety Standard Part 11. Recording and Reporting of Occupational injuries and Illnesses, effective September 19th. This change is due to recently revised federal regulation 1904.41, in order to be at least as effective as the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.

New Weighting System Could Increase Safety and Health Inspections
OSHA announced that it has implemented the OSHA Weighting System (OWS) for fiscal year 2020, effective October 1st. OWS will encourage the appropriate allocation of resources to support OSHA’s approach of promoting safe and healthy workplaces, and continue to develop and support a management system that focuses enforcement activities on critical and strategic areas where the agency’s efforts can have the most impact. The system will continue to weight inspections, but will do so based on other factors, including agency priorities and the impact of inspections, rather than simply on a time-weighted basis.
