CAM and Home Builders Association (HBA) of Southeastern Michigan have joined forces to host Michigan’s largest construction industry event ! Asbestos & Lead Awareness – MTI Elective
January 9 – 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Construction trades routinely renovate and demolish buildings that were built prior to 1981. These construction activities often result in contact with asbestos-containing materials. Asbestos Awareness Training is required annually for employees whose work activities may contact asbestos-containing materials (ACM) or presumed asbestos-containing materials (PACM), but do not disturb ACM or PACM during their work activities. First Aid, CPR, AED
January 21 – 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Every job site is required to have someone certified in first aid. Are you in compliance? This course teaches the principles of basic life support for adults. The course details “hands-only” CPR, first aid, choking in adults, signs, and symptoms of heart attack and stroke, and treatment for shock. OSHA 10-Hour for Construction
January 23-24 – 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
This program is designed to provide participants with a basic understanding of the hazards present in most construction projects. Participants will be able to identify, and then avoid, reduce, or eliminate job hazards. In addition, they will become more familiar with required record-keeping and MIOSHA enforcement procedures. Call for Public Input: NFPA 70B® Recommended Practice for Maintaining Electrical Equipment
NFPA 70B® Recommended Practice for Maintaining Electrical Equipment  details preventive maintenance for electrical, electronic, and communication systems and equipment -- such as those used in industrial plants, institutional and commercial buildings, and large multi-family residential complexes -- to prevent equipment failures and worker injuries.

Because major revisions are anticipated for the next edition as a transition from a recommended practice to a standard is anticipated, this standard is gaining significant industry attention. Click here to get involved in the review process and submit your input.
MIOSHA Offers $250,000 in Grants to Keep Workers Safe
Small businesses with 250 employees or less can now apply for a matching grant up to $5,000 to make improvements in their workplace safety and health through the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) Workplace Improvement to Safety and Health (MIWISH) grant program. The MIWISH grants will be offered to small employers to purchase safety and health-related equipment and equipment-related training that will provide a safer and healthier work environment and reduce the risk of injury and illness to workers in Michigan.

Preference will be given to employers in high-hazard industries identified in MIOSHA’s 2019-2023 strategic plan. All projects will be evaluated based on the specific hazards addressed. The grant period began October 1, 2019, the start of MIOSHA’s 2020 fiscal year, and continues until grant funding is expended. Previous MIWISH grant recipients may apply for funds after January 1, 2020. Click here for more information about the MIWISH grant program and how to apply.
Volunteers Needed to Serve as Judges for Future City Competition
Competition Day: Tuesday, January 28, 2020 
The Engineering Society of Detroit is looking for engineers and technical professionals to serve as judges for the 2020 Michigan Regional Future City Competition. The role of the judge is to draw on their expertise and resources to fairly evaluate the team's efforts. Judges are needed to evaluate three components of the competition:

Virtual City Designs Using SimCity Software: Students insert their city's details into a slideshow presentation template. Judges are needed to remotely review these PDF presentations in late December and early January.

City Essays: Students write a 1,500 word essay that describes the unique attributes of their city and provides a solution to this year's challenge - Clean Water: Tap into Tomorrow. Judges are needed to remotely evaluate essays in late December and early January.

Models and Presentations: Judges are needed on Competition Day (Tuesday, January 28, 2020) to view models and listen to presentations.

Construction Equipment tracks and reports on key industry trends and technologies. The group conducted a benchmarking survey in 2017, and now is the time to see how things have changed.
