Join Us for CAM's 5th Annual Legislative Breakfast Webinar

All CAM members are invited to participate in a live webinar discussion with our Michigan legislators.
Tuesday, October 20th - 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
Participants will enjoy a discussion on several construction industry-related issues, policies and legislation, including performance/prompt pay, workforce development, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Michigan's budget. Also expect an update on top legislative initiatives for the rest of 2020 and 2021 and get an opportunity to submit questions to your state legislators.

Is Your Company Celebrating a Milestone Anniversary?

CAM Magazine's December issue will honor CAM member companies whose milestone anniversaries are in this calendar year or next. Any anniversaries ending in 5 or 0 are welcome.
Companies celebrating 25 years or more will be highlighted with descriptive write-ups and photos. All others will be recognized in list format by year.

Construction Buyers Guide: There's an App for That

With the advent of mobile phones and our increasing dependency on them to perform day-to-day business operations, the time has come for the print version of the Buyers Guide to undergo a dramatic transformation into a fast, user-friendly mobile app.
Since August of 2019, the CAM team, together with our development partner jacapps, has been working to bring you the Construction Buyers Guide App, soon to be available in the Apple and Android stores. It will be free to download!

CAM Members Are Eligible for Tuition-Free College!
|
|
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, along with leaders in education, business, labor and workforce development, launched the nation’s first program offering tuition-free college to an estimated 625,000 Michiganders who provided essential, frontline services during COVID-19 Stay Home, Stay Safe orders between April to June 2020. Workers critical to the continued operation, construction, maintenance, or rehabilitation of critical infrastructure are considered to be essential, as defined by this program. As long as the interested applicant meets the other requirements, they are eligible to apply.
Frontline workers are encouraged to visit Michigan.gov/Frontliners to explore eligibility requirements, view a list of local community colleges, and to start your application – even if you don’t have a high school diploma. Part 45 – Fall Protection – MTI Required – ONLINE
October 13th – 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Attendees will review the MIOSHA Part 45 Construction Safety Standard for Protection including the latest OSHA and MIOSHA interpretations. Examine recent fatal falls in construction and discuss the latest fall protection techniques for construction. Click here for more info and to register.
Mitigating Contract Risk - ONLINE
October 14th – 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.
Construction contracts often contain clauses that must either be negotiated out of the agreement or, if they cannot be negotiated, notes as an important requirement and followed by the project team. This class identifies the most common risk-shifting clauses and presents strategies for negotiating over, mitigating, and managing them. Click here for more info and to register.
Managing Multiple Projects
October 20th – 8:30 a.m-12:00 p.m.
This course presents the principles used in Project Management. The project environment is discussed, as well as tools to plan organizational response to work. Project management implementation is explained including the effective management of resources. OSHA 10-Hour for Construction
October 22nd-23rd – 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Gain a basic understanding of the hazards present in most construction projects. Learn to identify, and then avoid, reduce, or eliminate job hazards and become familiar with required record-keeping and MIOSHA enforcement procedures. Students will receive an OSHA Construction Safety and Health 10-Hour course completion card. Click here for more info and to register.

Remembering Long-Time Industry Colleague Dale McAtamney
|
|
It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the death of Dale Michael McAtamney, age 70, of Chesterfield. Dale was actively involved with the Construction Association of Michigan for many years, having served as Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2003 as well as serving as a board trustee on CAM’s Industry Advancement Program.
Dale was also an active member of the Glazing Contractors Association, serving in many capacities on the board and as President of the Association. For many years, he represented the industry as a trustee on the Glazier’s Industry Advancement Fund. He co-owned and operated Armor Glass & Metal Inc., and over the years also worked for Glasco and Modern Mirror & Glass, among others.
View his Tribute page here. A memorial mass takes place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24th at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 22412 Overlake St., St. Clair Shores. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Giving Back: Support Michigan's Iron Belle Trail
|
|
Michigan's Iron Belle Trail touches hundreds of municipalities and crosses through 48 different Michigan counties. Using existing trails, networks and new connections, the hiking and biking trail extends more than 2,000 miles from the far western tip of the Upper Peninsula to Belle Isle in Detroit.
