Registration for the AIA Celebration of Architecture Is Now Open
The AIA Detroit Celebration of Architecture is the largest annual gathering of AEC professionals in Michigan, and AIA Detroit is proud to use it as a platform to showcase how design can be a driver for sustainable and equitable development around the world. This year's event takes place on Thursday, September 21st, in Shed 3 at Detroit's Eastern Market. Sponsors, exhibitors, and volunteers are needed for this annual event. Enter ACEC/Michigan's Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards Today
ACEC/Michigan celebrates and promotes achievements by engineering companies through its annual Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards. 
Projects from across the state compete each year for the coveted "Eminent Conceptor" Award. In early November, a panel of judges will evaluate the projects based on innovation, complexity, client satisfaction, and future value to the profession. Intents to enter this year's competition are due August 18th, with completed project submittals due by September 22th. MDOT Holds Public Meetings to Discuss Michigan Line Safety Improvements
The Michigan Department of Transportation is hosting two public open houses on safety improvements on the Michigan Line, which carries Amtrak’s Detroit-Chicago passenger train service. The meetings take place on August 7th in Kalamazoo and on August 8th in Dearborn. The purpose of this project is to enhance pedestrian safety along the railroad corridor at locations known to have hazardous conditions. Enhancements could include fencing, special pavement marking, signs, anti-trespass panels, or other improvements. CLICK HERE > to learn more and to provide your input.
Comments Sought on Proposed Rule to Clarify PPE Standard
OSHA has announced a notice of proposed rulemaking to clarify that personal protective equipment for construction workers must fit each employee properly to protect them from occupational hazards. According to the statement, the failure of standard-sized PPE to protect physically smaller construction workers properly, as well as problems with access to properly fitting PPE, have long been safety and health concerns in the construction industry. Comments and hearing requests must be submitted by September 18th.
