The Biggest Industry Event of the Year Is Just a Month Away! | |
CAM's 2024 EXPO takes place at the Suburban Collection Showplace on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Access to the trade show floor is FREE and open to the public, but pre-registration is highly recommended.
This one-day event combines the Great Lakes Design and Construction EXPO, an Economic Forecast Breakfast, CAM’s Annual Meeting, and CAM Magazine Project Achievement Awards. In addition, CAMTEC has a full line-up of FREE educational workshops scheduled! The EXPO is planned in conjunction with the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan and sponsored by Lake Michigan Credit Union.

The Economic Forecast Breakfast Starts the Day at EXPO | |
This year's Economic Forecast Breakfast features Dr. Daniil Manaenkov, U.S. Forecasting Specialist, Research Seminar in Quantitative Economics. The presentation will address GDP Growth, Inflation, and the Construction Outlook, followed by Q&A. Registration includes breakfast, the presentation, and a post-meeting presenter meet-and-greet on the EXPO show floor.

Barton Malow's Lindsey Rem Delivers Annual Meeting Keynote on AI | |
Every member company is offered one complimentary ticket to CAM's 138th Annual Meeting, taking place at 12:00 noon during the February 14th EXPO at Suburban Collection Showplace.
The meeting is preceded with a cocktail reception at 11:30 a.m, followed by the program and lunch. We will award our CAM Magazine Project Achievement winners, install our newly elected board members, and enjoy a keynote on "Constructing the Future with AI" by Lindsey Rem, Vice President of Business Transformation at Barton Malow. Roll into CAM's 73rd Annual Men's Doubles Classic on February 24th | |
The annual Men's Doubles Classic is a long-time CAM tradition and is one of the most popular social events of the year. A yearly average of 360 bowlers have enjoyed this fun-filled day at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park.
Check-in starts at 10:30 a.m.on Saturday, February 24th, with bowling, dinner, awards, prizes, and card-playing to follow. CLICK HERE > to register.

Learn How Michigan’s Prevailing Wage Act Will Impact Your Business |
On March 24, 2023, Gov. Whitmer signed into law a bill reinstituting Michigan’s Prevailing Wage Act (the “Act”) that will take effect in March of 2024. Join this session to learn more about certified payroll and how this Act will impact your business.

There are several requirements outlined by the Act, including requiring every contractor and subcontractor in Michigan to pay the prevailing wage and benefit rates to employees working on most state-funded construction projects and requiring contractors to post the prevailing wage rates at each construction site and to maintain accurate records of actual wages and benefits paid to workers. CAM Magazine’s annual October Project Achievement Awards Special Issue highlights 12 of the most outstanding construction projects of the year. One of the 12 selected Special Issue projects will also be chosen to receive the accolade of Project of the Year. Entries must be constructed or designed by a CAM member company and must have been completed – or reached substantial completion – between June 2023 and June 2024. The deadline for submitting this year's projects is March 22nd.

Oakland County MIWorks! Troy has a program called “Talent Tours,” which introduces young adults, parents, and educators to available career paths by offering a behind-the-scenes look into in-demand businesses and industries. This is an opportunity for businesses to showcase their industry and company to tomorrow’s employees through either a virtual or in-person tour of their facility. MIOSHA Updates Two Construction Standards | |
The director of the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity has announced the amendment of the following rules, effective January 3, 2024:
Construction Standard (CS) Part 9, Excavation, Trenching, and Shoring, effective January 3, 2024 - The rule has been amended to add the word “vertically” to R 408.40945, “Trenching Boxes and Shields,” to match the federal OSHA rules and to also add definitions listed in OSHA’s Subpart P – Excavations standard, specifically the definitions contained in 29 CFR 1926.650, “Scope, application, and definitions applicable to this subpart,” 29 CFR 1926.651, “Specific excavation requirements,” and 29 CFR 1926.652, “Requirements for protective systems.”
Construction Standard (CS) Part 26, Steel Erection, effective January 3, 2024. MIOSHA has amended rules to adopt by reference Subpart R – Steel Erection, except for rules 29 CFR 1926.753, “Hoisting and rigging,” and 29 CFR 1926.761, “Training,” which will be covered under the Michigan rules referenced in R 408.42601. In addition, minor editorial, formatting, and title name changes were made. CLICK HERE > for more information.
