Park Slope Women's Shelter Shines Bright
|
|
The wonderful residents and staff of the Park Slope Women's Shelter (PSWS) joined with neighbors on December 12th to celebrate another successful annual Tree Lighting Ceremony for the 23rd year in a row. The night was filled with friends, supporters, cookies, hot cocoa and of course an amazing display of lights. The fun filled night included performances from CAMBA's own Beacon Elite Steppers from the Beacon 361 School, community choral groups, and some of the talented residents of the shelter. Thank you PSWS for allowing us all to enjoy this inspiring night.

PowerUp! With CAMBA's Small Business Services

Mary Vaughn, Isha Jalloh and SBS Business Counselor Lyse Pamphile.

On Monday, December 6th, CAMBA's Small Business Services' (SBS) clients took the Brooklyn Public Library's PowerUp! competition by storm. For 16 years the Brooklyn Public Library has awarded more than $450,000 to growing Brooklyn entrepreneurs who make a
Shark Tank-
like pitch on behalf of their businesses. Thanks to the help of our Small Business Services, three of our clients were among the winning individuals in this year's (2019) competition. Second place went to Tiffiny Brown (featured in last month's Connection) from
the Suite I Do,
taking home $10,000; third place went to Mary Vaughn for her pitch for her
Title IX
company, winning $5,000. And
Isha Jalloh took home $1,000 for the Audience Choice Award with her pitch for her business
Bintumani Botanicals.
Congratulations to all, including CAMBA's SBS, on this year's big win.

Holiday Giving Brings Results
|
|
|
|
Thank you to all who donated to our annual 500 Holiday Meals for 500 Families. Your contributions made a big difference for our neighbors who received holiday meals and fixings for their families. The donations also will help keep the pantry stocked during the winter months as the need continues.
On average, more than 3,000 individuals receive healthy meals from our food pantry each month.

Brevoort Cornerstone's Adopt-a-Grandparent
|
|
For the past three years, the Brevoort Cornerstone Community Center has had a Thanksgiving dinner that unites its after school youth program with the seniors' program. Both occupy the Center at the Brevoort Houses of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). Each year, youth select the senior who will be their table mate at the "Adopt a Grandparent" dinner with 150 youth and seniors participating this year.
"My intention is to build a bridge between the two programs," said Cornerstone Director
Frances Platt
, who also cooked two turkeys and a ham for the feast. Young and old were building lasting relationships for the future.
