Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Council Member Alicka Ampry-Samuel help distribute masks and gloves in Brownsville.
|
|
On April 24th, CAMBA's
BIVO program joined with Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Council Member Alicka Ampry-Samuel in distributing masks and gloves in Brownsville Brookyn, in response to the high rate of COVID-19 infections in the area. BIVO (Brownsville In, Violence Out) focuses on reducing gun-violence in the area and improving the overall safety of the community. Adams contributed personal protection equipment (PPE), and along with Ampry-Samuel and BIVO, helped distribute thousands of the equipment to anyone who wanted one. You can read more about the effort on the Borough President's
website.

Beyond Hunger Food Pantry staff
|
|
In its alumni magazine, Fordham University featured CAMBA's Senior Vice President Janet C. Miller, a graduate of Fordham's School of Social work, for her work on the frontlines of food insecurity issues, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Janet oversees our Beyond Hunger Emergency Food Pantry, which has seen a dramatic increase in clients seeking food for themselves and their families in the midst of the pandemic and massive unemployment. And especially as other food pantries have had to close their doors due to lack of funding (or staff), CAMBA itself conservatively estimates we will need $100,000 more to continue to meet the growing need of our neighbors. In March, we served more than 41,000 meals, and that increased by one-third to 61,000-plus meals in April. If you can help us continue to meet this growing need, we would greatly appreciate your
donation.

Late in April, Senior Program Director Shirley Isidore-Gayle (pictured) was at 19 Winthrop Street distributing food and vouchers to clients. After learning that a housing client had been quarantined due to COVID-19, and knowing he was unemployed, Shirley delivered 2 weeks’ worth of food supplies to his Bronx apartment.
Senior Case Manager Chantell Rodgers from the Stability Supportive Housing Program has a client with multiple challenges and she was concerned about his health and nutrition. Her assumptions were right as she learned he was out of both food and funds, and Chantell purchased and delivered food to him multiple times.
We salute all CAMBA staff who are true super heroes wearing masks.

The Brooklyn Quilters Guild, a long-time partner with the Park Slope Women's Shelter, donated 300 masks made by Guild members for the protection of residents at the shelter.
Design and lifestyle store west elm partnered
with Designtex to repurpose 400-thread count percale sheets to deliver 2,500 masks. CAMBA staff and clients who wear these masks are sure to be ambassadors for the softness of west elm linens!
Bethel Ministries connected 5M Mask Company owner Zam Barrett to CAMBA and his company donated 200 masks to the Magnolia House Women's Shelter. Our thanks to the Brooklyn Quilters Guild and west elm for their ongoing support of CAMBA; and to 5M Masks for their generosity.
