CAMBA Housing Ventures Wins National Award
|
|
CAMBA Housing Ventures, Inc. has been awarded the 2018 Outstanding Affordable Housing Development for CAMBA Gardens II by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as a part of the LEED Homes Awards. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the world’s most widely used green building rating system. The award is an annual honor in celebration of residential projects, developers and builders that use LEED to improve quality of life for residents, reduce a building’s impact on the environment, and create healthier and more resilient communities.
A national model for co-locating housing and healthcare, LEED Gold rated CAMBA Gardens Phase II is a continuation of the successful LEED Platinum CAMBA Gardens Phase I. Both created an innovative partnership between a public hospital, nonprofit community developer, social service provider and community stakeholders to redevelop underutilized hospital property into much-needed supportive and affordable housing.
CAMBA Housing Ventures also received the honor of 2018 LEED Homes Power Builder for its commitment to LEED and the green building movement. Read more about CAMBA Gardens II's LEED award, including support from our stakeholders, on the CAMBA Housing Ventures

Creative Kids in Ditmas Park
|
|
Congratulations to CAMBA Creative Kids on an amazing Family Night celebration at PS 139 in Ditmas Park. According to Education & Youth Program Manager
Crystal Bellinger
, the theme of the evening was carnival, and families showed up in great numbers to take part in the festive activities.
Attendees worked together to create several demonstrations, including watching 3rd grader Josiah McGillvery (photo right) do a nimble balancing act. Other demonstrations included developing a safe container for eggs dropping from above; an array of stations with traditional carnival games; and exciting dance activities that got both young and old on their feet--and much more.
Awesome job team Creative Kids!

The
Ipsos Foundation has made a commitment to provide access to learning for children who have had their education disrupted by humanitarian or natural crises.
With that in mind, volunteers from Ipsos worked with CAMBA to donate books to children in honor of World Refugee Day on June 20th at our
Kids Unite After-School Program at
PS 170. The elementary school in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn serves 220 children from a largely immigrant community. The volunteers donated 75 books to the program and also spent time reading to groups of students. CAMBA's Kids Unite program, which receives funds from the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), aims to teach children to "think globally, and act locally."

The paint brushes came out at Penn-Wortman's Cornerstone Community Center, as JP Morgan Chase volunteers joined with CAMBA's staff and youths to beautify the building with murals. The June 8th event helped everyone tap into their inner
Basquiat
as they applied a range of bright colors and inspiring words to the Center's exterior.
