It was a CAMBA Night Out to remember on October 24th as our gala fundraiser attracted a large group of enthusiastic attendees at this annual event. We honored two extraordinary New Yorkers whose organizations have contributed to our success:
Sheldon Lobel
, Founder of Sheldon Lobel PC;
and
Eric Enderlin
, President of NYC's Housing Development Corporation. During the evening's program, the audience viewed the latest
CAMBA video
highlighting our work and accomplishments. The gala raised more than $700,000 thanks to our sponsors and auction donors. This money will allow us to provide critical services to help our struggling neighbors transform their lives.
We are especially grateful for the 50 plus staff and volunteers who helped make the evening a success, including
Jordan Short
from Brooklyn-based furniture and design store
west elm
. west elm donated wonderful items to the auction, which Jordan organized for display along with other donated items.

Health Homes Help on Video
|
|
|
The Community Health Network, which includes CAMBA's Health Link program, has produced a
public service announcement video (PSA
) highlighting CAMBA's work with one of our clients, Malcolm (photo left). The PSA’s goal is to increase the awareness of the Health Home Care Coordination program and services to show how they can improve the lives of patients. "We wanted to highlight the work being done by the Care Management Agencies [like CAMBA] through the story of their client Malcolm, who has had success obtaining employment and has seen improvement with his medical issues and overall feeling of dignity and self-worth," said Ryan Harris, Director of Health Home Quality for CHN. The video will also provide teaching and information opportunities for providers to discuss the Health Home program.

Students at PS 92 taking part in the Lights On Literacy effort
|
|
CAMBA after-school programs participated in Lights On After-School on October 24th, an opportunity to demonstrate how important after-school learning is for youth. This year’s theme was Lights on Literacy because literacy is a foundation for learning and enrichment. Across CAMBA after-school programs, youth participated in a range of activities, including combining literacy with social emotional learning skills. At CAMBA's Kids Unlimited at PS 92, youth read the story "Wings" about an outcast who was scolded and shamed because he was different. The youth then wrote a small message of encouragement to someone who is having a bad day—and learned a key lesson about the power of words.
