Springing Into Summer!

As we embrace this season, Afterschool Programs are embracing the great outdoors more than ever. Basketball tournaments fill our schedules, art projects spill out into the open air, and we're all eagerly counting down to the end of the school year. However, with summer on the horizon, our dedicated CAN staff are tirelessly preparing for our upcoming 6-week educational summer camp.

Behind the scenes, it's a whirlwind of activity. From crafting curriculum to sourcing materials, from recruitment to training our exceptional camp leaders, every detail is being meticulously attended to. Our goal? To ensure that our campers have the most enriching and enjoyable experience possible!

We're thrilled to give you a sneak peek into what we've been up to and unveil the theme for this year's summer camp!

Planning For a Great Summer Camp

Introducing CAN's Summer Camp theme for 2024!

Summer Camp begins at all 6 CAN locations on Monday, June 24th and we're so excited to share updates with you!

A dedicated group of CAN VISTAs worked hard creating specialized lessons in their areas of expertise. For our 6-week summer camp, we've written 46 lessons - all by CAN staff, designed specifically to meet the needs of our kiddos!

We've hired 20 Summer Program Facilitators (SPFs), 10 of which are new hires and 10 of which were existing PAs. This is the first time we've had so many staff stay on for summer!

Campers will be spending time each week preparing themselves for their end of summer show! Students will have the opportunity to explore the world of music and performance through costume design, set design, writing their own music, crafting lyrics or lines, auditioning with their group, rehearsing, and finally... performing for friends and family!

Students will get a chance to learn about various genres of music and dance, try out new instruments, and even get a performance from practicing musicians from throughout the Midwest (thanks to Great Lakes Performing Artist Associates).

"CLEAR!"

CAN's in-house CPR instructor, Torey Madura, has been busy coordinating training sessions and getting all CAN staff prepared in case of an emergency. By the time summer camp starts, every staff member and intern at CAN will be CPR and First Aid certified!

Thanks for being such a creative and thorough teacher, Torey!
