It's PumpCAN Season!

All across CAN, we have been embracing the beautiful Fall weather and having so much fun celebrating spooky season! Community events, After School Program parties, and social gatherings have such a special place in our hearts that togetherness has been the theme of this October. As we head into the holiday season, there is no shortage of creativity, friendship, and fun here at CAN!

What's Happening at CAN?

Halloween Festivities!

Check out CAN's Instagram for more Fall festivities!

Holidays are such a good opportunity to come together and have some fun! Each of our communities celebrated the season in their own way. Our Bryant Community Center had a blast painting AND carving pumpkins. Hikone reveled in Halloween cookie decorating and face painting. Arrowood Hills hosted a Trunk or Treat. And Green Baxter Court and Brick gathered for Halloween parties which were tons of fun!

Community Fun At Hikone

Community members at CAN's Hikone site recently came together to decorate a new picnic table for the neighborhood! Program Assistant Keegan Carriveau painted it a nice bright orange. Then families were invited to add their handprints as decoration! This was such a special opportunity to catch up with each other, but also to create some art that will last in the community for many years to come! We look forward to all the picnics to be had on this special table.

Bryant Community Center's Holiday Pop-up Shop

CAN's Bryant Community Center will be hosting a Holiday Pop-up Shop! Members of the Bryant community will be offering items from their small businesses as well as handmade arts and crafts for sale! We invite you to bring your family and friends to come shop local while supporting the Bryant community!

Special Shoutouts!

Strides Toward Sustainability!

We are so grateful to be recipients of $500,000 from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority through MI-HOPE. Last year, CAN began partnering with the City of Ann Arbor's Office of Sustainability and Innovations on a pilot program to co-design a path to sustainably enhance the quality of life in the Bryant neighborhood. These funds will help us decarbonize 20 households!

Fun with Grad SWE

Students at Hikone's After School program are having a blast learning all about engineering from University of Michigan's Grad SWE! Some of the activities they have enjoyed include making slime, shoes, and water filters! Students also got to create an invention out of used materials all while learning the ins and outs of different types of engineering!

Door Dash Partnership

This year, Food Gatherers began piloting a new program called Project DASH which is a partnership between Door Dash and The Food Bank Council of Michigan. CAN's Bryant Community Center is one of the sites partnering with Food Gatherers to deliver groceries through the program. So far it has been a huge success, allowing us to deliver 15-20 grocery orders a week thanks to amazing "dashers"!
