June 2019 eNews from CAP/Corbett
From our Executive Director
As we await spring and summer, CAP activities are in full swing to benefit children, families and our adoption programs.

I find this especially important, having just attended our recently revived Adoption Exchange conference. Held in Batavia with our sister city Buffalo and many other regions represented, a large number of professionals gathered to present waiting children and waiting families.

As I observed nearly 50 children presented in neighboring counties, I was struck by the enormity of our work and the need for families for the nearly 25,000 children in NY State alone. It was emotional to say the least, and as professionals in the world of foster care and adoption, we all wanted to take a few home to give them the forever family, home, and life each child deserves.
This Spring, our focus is awareness and visibility. As National Foster Care month ends, we are gearing up to spread the word in hopes that--as we approach National Adoption Month in November--we will celebrate the news of many adoptions at our November 30 gala. Help us spread the word, and watch for Save the Date gala info!

Thank you,
Lauri McKnight

Spotlight on CAP/Corbett Board Secretary
Lynne Scalzo
Lynne Scalzo
Meet Lynne Scalzo who has served on our board for five years, and as secretary & Executive Committee member for the last two.

Why do you serve on the CAP board?
Early in my career I worked for the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange, an agency similar to CAP. I interviewed and photographed children and wrote their stories. Each child was unique and each had a story to tell, which were in turn both heartbreaking and full of hope. But mostly they each wanted just one thing: their forever family. Joining the CAP Board was a chance once again to be a part of helping children in foster care find their permanent home.

What do you want people to know about CAP?
CAP is known for its adoption advocacy and for a dedicated and passionate staff driven to find families for children, regardless of age, special needs, or in a sibling group. With our Donald J. Corbett Adoption Agency, we are a full-service adoption agency, providing continuity of services to children and families across the entire adoption journey, ultimately bringing even more children into permanent homes.

Lynne recently launched Lynne Scalzo Consulting, which helps organizations maximize their potential through planning, strategy and action.
