Honoring our Legacy, Embracing our Future

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As CAPA's Interim President and CEO, I am honored to reach out to you with gratitude and excitement for the future. First, I want to extend my deepest appreciation to our former president and CEO, Rochelle Parker. Her visionary leadership and dedication have been the cornerstone of our success for the past ten years, making a lasting impact on countless children and adults who have faced trauma. Her commitment to our mission has been truly inspirational, and we owe her tremendous gratitude for her tireless service. As I step into this role, I am profoundly aware of Rochelle's incredible legacy and am prepared to build on our decade-long accomplishments.

I accept the responsibility of continuing the vital work championed by CAPA's leadership team with humility and determination. With almost 13 years of experience serving at CAPA in various capacities, I have been deeply committed to our mission of preventing and treating child abuse and neglect. My journey at CAPA has been both challenging and rewarding, allowing me to witness firsthand our profound impact on the lives of children and families. From my early days of visiting families in their homes to my current role supporting our excellent staff, my dedication to CAPA's mission has only grown stronger.

I am excited to build on the strong foundation laid and lead our organization into a new chapter of growth and impact. We have an extraordinary team, dedicated volunteers, and passionate supporters—all of you who make our work possible. Together, we will continue to provide the essential services and programs that the children and families in our community rely on. Your ongoing support and belief in our mission are invaluable. I am eager to work alongside each of you as we carry this important work forward, honoring the past while embracing the future.

:: DEIB Journey

Celebrating Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging!

June is Pride Month, and it's the perfect time to highlight our DEIB journey here at CAPA. To break it down, diversity is about celebrating and representing our differences; equity is making sure everyone has what they need to succeed; inclusion ensures everyone's voice is heard; and belonging, the ultimate goal, is creating an environment where everyone feels welcome, celebrated, respected, and able to be their best self.

At CAPA, we understand that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) are fundamental to realizing our vision of preventing and treating child abuse so children and families can be safe and reach their full potential. We celebrate the diversity of families and recognize them as experts of their own experiences. We are committed to providing quality services by practicing DEIB through our words and our actions by:

  • Ensuring inclusive representation and accessibility
  • Engaging in purposeful learning and development
  • Sharing our stories and being clear in our communications
  • Practicing and expecting transparency and accountability

The DEIB Committee meets on the third Tuesday of each month. Although this committee is internally composed of staff and board members, we welcome our stakeholders to reach out with any questions, ideas, or feedback at any time.

:: Program Spotlight

Social and Emotional Learning in the Classroom

This year, 52 students participated in our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program. SEL is about helping kids grow and develop positively by learning about themselves, being kind to others, managing their emotions, and making good choices. SEL gives teachers and students tools to prevent aggressive behaviors and make classrooms happier. It also provides additional tools and knowledge that benefit the students outside of the school in their daily lives.

Lindsey Neely, one of our program support specialists who led classes, recounted a heartwarming moment from the final day: a student declared, "I'll always remember what I've learned, CAPA friends!"

To learn more about SEL, check out our brochure or visit the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) website.
