New Name. Same Mission.

Our 50th anniversary is more than just a milestone; it’s a time to honor our past, celebrate the present, and look confidently to the future.

That’s why we’re proud to introduce our new name and look:

Animated transition from the current CAPA logo on a blue background to the new CAPACares logo, accompanied by the message: “New name. Same mission.”

While our name and look will change, our mission and commitment remain the same. For 50 years, we’ve been a trusted place for children and families facing abuse, trauma, and other life challenges. We continue to provide trauma-informed care that helps people heal, grow, and thrive.

So why “CAPACares”?

Because we always have. For nearly a decade, our website and hashtag have been CAPACares. Whether in therapy rooms, classrooms, or community spaces, care has always been at the center of our work. And now, it’s at the heart of our name.

The CAPACares brand honors our legacy while embracing the changing needs of our community. With a fresh logo, bold colors, and images filled with care and heart, it reflects the healing work we do every day. It also embodies the warm, welcoming spirit that connects us with the people we serve and the people who stand with us.

This transformation was made possible by our friends at Crux KC through their Crux for a Cause program. We are grateful for the dedication and expertise their team put into creating a brand that truly reflects who we are and what we stand for. Over the coming weeks and months, you’ll start to see our new look on our materials, in our spaces, and in everything we share.

As CAPA, and now as CAPACares, we’ve always cared deeply about kids, families, mental health, and YOU, our supporter and friend. Thank you for being part of our journey.

:: Summer is Here!

Staying Connected All Summer Long

Summer is a time many kids look forward to. School is out, the weather is warm, and there’s more time to play and explore. But with the change in routine, some kids may feel a little unsure or out of place. That’s why staying connected with caring adults during the summer is so important. Simple things like spending time together, talking, and playing can help kids feel safe, seen, and supported all season long.

One of the best ways to stay connected is through play! Whether it’s drawing with sidewalk chalk, going for a walk, or playing a game together, these moments help build strong relationships.

To make summer connection even easier, we've created a free Summer Bucket List printable. Help a kid in your life dream up 10 things they’d love to do before the season ends! Kids can write or draw their ideas on the list, then check them off as they go.

:: Celebrating 50 Years of Impact

Traveling Through CAPA's Timeline

1975 to Today

We’re thrilled and honored to share that CAPA has once again been selected as a United Way Impact 100 nonprofit! This recognition places us among a group of awesome organizations working to make a lasting impact across the Kansas City region. We’re proud to be an Impact 100 nonprofit again in 2025, and grateful for the continued support that helps us serve children and families with compassion, care, and commitment.

Our relationship with the United Way of Greater Kansas City began in 1978, when CAPA was first designated a Partner Agency and received a $10,000 allocation. This investment helped lay the foundation for the services we provide today. United Way has been a driving force for change in Kansas City for over a century, connecting people and resources to address our community’s most urgent needs.

One of their most important resources is 2-1-1, a free, confidential helpline and search portal that connects individuals and families with essential services, including housing and food assistance to mental health resources and crisis support, 24/7.

:: Funder Feature

Children's Services Fund

The Children’s Services Fund (CSF) of Jackson County helps make sure kids and teens in our community get the mental health support they need to grow and thrive. CSF was created in 2016 after Jackson County voters approved a small sales tax to support children’s services. Since then, CSF has given more than $185 million to nearly 200 programs that help kids and families through counseling, crisis support, prevention programs, and more.

CSF works with local organizations to support kids and build strong partnerships. Thanks to CSF, more children in Jackson County have access to the care and support they need to live healthy, happy lives.
