Gerhold Lecture Features Pulitzer Prize-Winning Poet

Gerhold speaker

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and U.S. Poet Laureate (2017-19) Tracy K. Smith will be the featured speaker at this year’s Gerhold Lecture in the Humanities.

Wednesday, Oct. 18

3 p.m., Q&A, Bridge of Learning

7:30 p.m., Gerhold Lecture, Huntington Recital Hall

Smith received the 2012 Pulitzer Prize in poetry for her third book of poems, “Life on Mars.” The collection draws upon the genre of science fiction in considering who we humans are and what the vast universe holds for us. In poems of political urgency, tenderness, elegy and wit, Smith conjures versions of the future, imagines the afterlife, and contemplates life here on earth in our institutions, cities, houses, and hearts.

CU Alumni - Have You Told Your Capital Story?

Each member of the #capfam has a story to tell – including those alumni who are current Capital faculty and staff. We are partnering with Publishing Concepts (PCI) to collect your stories, ensuring those memories are captured in perpetuity.

You should have received a communication from PCI requesting you connect with them to confirm your information and to share your alumni story. These information requests will come via email and postcards, sharing the ways in which you can connect with PCI.

Once collected, your story would be documented in a printed book, which will contain stories from other Capital community members and showcase the rich oral history of Capital.

There is no cost for participating and telling your Capital story, but PCI will offer you an opportunity to reserve a physical copy of the story text for purchase.

More information on how to participate, including FAQs, can be found here.
