The Trout Lectures honor the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Nelson W. Trout. He was a Trinity Lutheran Seminary alumnus, a member of the Trinity faculty, and the first African American elected to serve as a Lutheran bishop. Schumacher Presents 'When Nature Speaks'

The Schumacher Gallery will host an exhibition titled “When Nature Speaks” by Kirsten Bowen and Karen LaValley.

Exhibition
Blackmore Library, fourth floor
Jan. 17 to April 9
Monday through Friday, 12 to 4 p.m.
Saturday 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Opening reception
Thursday, Jan. 20
5 to 7 p.m.

This exhibition celebrates the decades-long friendship of painters LaValley and Bowen. Drawing upon her father’s love of writing and reciting poetry, Bowen incorporates prose in the texture of her paintings. Her thickly painted scenes are often a means of collaboration, borrowing and elevating the work of independent writings. A child of dancers, LaValley paints energetic landscapes that emote joy and excitement influenced by her youth spent in her family’s dance school. She is often seen painting plein air in the open spaces near her Columbus home and brings her gardens to the gallery walls with whimsy and expertise.

The Gallery also will feature sketches from Wassily Kandinsky’s Sketchbook in conjunction with the Conservatory of Music 2022 NOW Music Festival, Feb. 15-19. This exhibition will offer a multimedia event that is accompanied by electronic music of juried student-composers. The exhibition will encompass multiple video devices throughout the entire floor of the museum space and will continue throughout the spring.

Indoor Track and Field to Pick Back Up in New Year

The Capital University Track & Field team is looking to hit the track with a lot to prove during the 2022 indoor season. Under the direction of a new coaching staff, the team is aiming to set new strides and standards not yet seen. After a promising First Glimpse Meet in early December, the team may already be finding those strides and standards.

The team returns several faces on both the men's and women's side that have already cemented their name among some of the best in the program's history. For the men, Capital will return five members of the Indoor Top-10 lists: Daniel Hiser, Zion Park, Jonathan Brown, Kelly Wilson II, and Andy Fullmer. Both Wilson and Fullmer hold top marks in their respective events – the 60 meter hurdles for Wilson and the heptathlon for Fullmer. On the women's side, Allison Costanzo, Bella McCarthy, and Alexa Poling find their names on the indoor Top-10 lists as well.

Calling All Former Coaches and Players! Capital Athletics Needs Your Help!

During the 2021 summer, Capital Athletics began the transition of the Athletics Hall of Fame to a completely digital platform which is now housed in The Capital Center lobby. The project can be viewed online from the comfort of your home by visiting the Capital Athletics Hall of Fame.

In order to continue to build this project and accurately portray our wonderful student-athletes who have passed through Capital, Capital Athletics asks any former players, coaches, family members, and friends of the programs to email sports information director Nick Astalos (nastalos@capital.edu) with any photos or information that can help complete individual profiles on the platform.
