Capital will present the 33rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Learning on Monday, Jan. 15. The theme of the 2024 event is “Courage in Community.” Join fellow students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Keynote speakers are:

New Platform Launching for Accessibility Services | |
|
Accessibility Services is launching Accommodate, new software on the Bexley campus to manage all accommodations. Students will be able to send their academic accommodation letter to their professors, schedule exams in the Testing Center, schedule meetings, and request alternate format textbooks all in one platform.
Instructors will have access to their class rosters, students’ accommodation letters, and manage exams for students scheduled in the Testing Center.
The Law School will go live with the new platform in fall 2024.
Accessibility Services has updated its webpage to include new policies and forms. The links to access Accommodate are also on the page: https://www.capital.edu/about/accessibility-services/.

Student Artists: Play the Gallery
"Art in Time of Conflict"

The 2024 NOW Festival @ Capital University will take place on Feb. 11-18, featuring eminent electro-acoustic and film composer Alla Zagaykevych from Kyiv, Ukraine.
On Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m., we will be producing a special event at Capital’s Schumacher Gallery, “Play the Gallery: Art in Time of Conflict” highlighting Capital’s student-artists.
Schumacher Gallery has wonderful standing exhibits and rotating shows, and, starting Jan. 15 it will feature Talle Bamazi Retrospective. The goal of “Play the Gallery” project is for students-artists to:
- Experience the standing exhibits and Talle Bamazi’s works (available online before Jan. 15), as well as music of Alla Zagaykevych before the NOW Festival begins;
- Use these experiences as the inspiration for creating a work that explores the theme of “Art in Time of Conflict”;
- Have this work performed in the Gallery space on the evening of Feb. 14.
Projects can range from poetry and prose readings to dance, acting, musical improvisation, musical composition, live visual art creation, and beyond. The proposals for participation will be examined by an interdisciplinary faculty jury.

Talle Bamazi Retrospective | |
|
Born in Kara, Togo, West Africa, Talle Bamazi can be described as an artist who uses canvas as a site for activism. Through his art, Talle is intently compelled to share the story of his homeland while purposefully paying homage to his ancestors and the culturally significant ties between traditional and contemporary ideas. Bamazi established the Kabiye Impact Contemporary African Art (KIACA) Gallery in 2003, located in Columbus, Ohio, where he was able to educate patrons on the enduring cultural gifts of his beloved Africa, while also serving as an influential talent incubator for young artists of color. He has had several solo exhibitions, including Brecht Forum in New York and Goethe Institute in Lomé, and has been featured at the Columbus Museum of Art and the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center.

As we start the new year, it’s very important all employees take the time to review their first of the year Earnings Statements in myCAP to ensure all 2024 benefit and other elections are accurate. If you have any questions regarding your benefit deductions or other elections, please contact Ashley Huff (Benefits) or Renee Bergman (Payroll). | |

If you have not already done so, please consider receiving this year’s W-2 online. To elect this option, complete the online CONSENT (MyCAP>Employee>Tax Information) to view and print your W-2 forms! Besides immediate availability, it’s a tremendous cost savings to Capital as it will reduce the number of physical W-2s we have to print, process and mail.
Paper copies of W-2s will be postmarked and mailed no later than Jan. 31, 2024, for former employees and those who do not consent to receive online copies.

HSA - Changes to Employer Contributions | |
As a reminder, the full annual employer HSA contribution will be added to eligible employee accounts by the end of January after all payrolls have been completed (rather than incrementally throughout the year). | |

Conservatory Accreditation
The National Association of Schools of Music recent accreditation report on Capital’s Conservatory of Music was exceptional. NASM reviewed 161 schools this cycle and Capital was one of only five schools receiving accreditation with no progress reports. The Conservatory also received three commendations from the commission.

Lexus-Nexus Book Published
"Section 1983 Litigation" by Law School Professor Mark Brown was published in the Lexus-Nexus Civil Rights & Strategy Series. Section 1983 Litigation takes the mystery out of civil rights actions and makes 1983 accessible to practicing lawyers.
