For second place, the staff took best website.

For third place, the staff received best headline for “Misery in Missouri: new dress code pits women against women.”

Zach Basselman earned an honorable mention for his column “Behind the crash: East Palestine, corporate lobbying and regulation.”

“I am immensely proud of the staff who worked so hard to win these awards, and I am excited for the coming years to see what else we can accomplish,” Adrian Suppes, editor-in-chief, said.

“I see how hard the staff works, and I am thrilled,” Kelly Messinger, Chimes adviser, said. “To win in a national contest is most gratifying.”

"Victorious in Defeat" by Sasha Pantsov

The latest book by Sasha Pantsov, professor of History, was included on History Today's 2023 list of Books of the Year. The review of "Victorious in Defeat: The Life and Times of Chiang Kai-shek, China, 1987-1975" called it "...a refreshing reappraisal of a man who was neither the corrupt fascist of standard historiography nor the tragic hero of more recent positive reassessments."
