WHORL II
Have you noticed something new, big, and blue between Mees Hall and Blackmore Library? After years in storage, Whorl II – also known as the “blue flame” – has finally found a new home.

Originally installed on the Main Street side of the library in 1987, Whorl II was moved outside of Loy Gym in 2004 when that building was converted to artist studios and Conservatory practice rooms. When Loy was demolished in 2015 to make way for the Convergent Media Center, Whorl II was moved to storage. After six years hidden away, we are excited to finally have it back out on display where it can be prominently displayed for all.

Created by Columbus artists Kenneth Valimaki and Michael Liscano, the statue was purchased through The Schumacher Gallery Fund to honor Walter and Marian English for their faithful support of the visual arts at Capital University.

There is also space for you to co-author your guide with prompts for asking, listening, writing, and drawing.

EARLY MUSIC IN COLUMBUS CONCERT
Violinist Rachel Barton Pine and harpsichordist Jory Vinikour are both internationally acclaimed musicians. They’re also old friends. The warmth of their personal relationship is evident in this incredible performance of J. S. Bach’s “Violin and Harpsichord Sonatas,” the next performance in the Early Music in Columbus series. These sonatas are a cornerstone of both the violin repertoire and Bach’s keyboard literature. Capital University is a sponsor of Early Music in Columbus, a series dedicated to the music of the medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods.
