Program News and Information
Plant a Row
One of the challenges Granite Staters are facing is food insecurity. Whether you are looking to supplement your own household, or would like to donate produce, we can all plant an extra row.

What is Plant A Row ?
Plant A Row is a hands-on neighbor-helping-neighbor initiative started in 2020 during the pandemic. Participating households receive a grow kit and pledge to grow an extra row or an extra container of fresh and local produce to donate to a local food pantry, a neighbor in need or to supplement their own need for fresh greens. It really is as easy as Plant - Grow- Donate.
CAPSC is now a partner in the Plant a Row Program!

CAPSC will be a pick-up location for seed packets, so that interested households can grow extra produce to donate to the CAPSC food pantry.

If you have any questions about the program or are interested in getting free seeds, please contact Population Health Manager, Erin Harkins, at eharkins@straffordcap.org.
Weatherization
We would like to welcome Vicki Pease to our Weatherization team! Vicki was a Weatherization crew leader here at CAPSC years ago. She returns with a wealth of building efficiency knowledge and is currently completing her auditor studies in Syracuse, New York.

Welcome aboard Vicki!

Weatherization is shifting away from emergency heating season and is placing a greater emphasis on energy efficiency jobs that benefit our clients by reducing their heating and cooling bills. Our average Weatherization household spends upwards of 10% of their household budget for fuel and electric costs. The Weatherization Assistance Program helps reduce those costs through extensive air sealing, insulating and air barrier improvements to our client’s homes. If you know someone who could benefit from our services, please let us know by emailing Bob Arnold, Housing Development and Revitalization Director, at barnold@straffordcap.org.
Domestic Violence Coordinated Entry Project
The Domestic Violence Coordinated Entry project is an initiative to provide trauma informed housing case management for those fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence. It does differ from other programs here at CAPSC, as it is not only for Strafford County, but covers what is called the Balance of State- which is all of New Hampshire except for Nashua and Manchester. Referrals are received from 211, victim service providers, and other social service agencies. We are able to assess their situation, enter them into the statewide coordinated entry system, connect them with their local crisis center, provide resources, assist with their housing search, and advocate for them with
community connections.

If you or someone you know could benefit from speaking with a Domestic Violence Coordinated Entry team member, please contact Cindy, Domestic Violence Team Manager, at cindyj@straffordcap.org.

Exciting news: we recently added to the team by hiring case manager, Kelly. She has been a great addition to this growing program!
Food Pantry Services
Thanks to the generosity of our community, CAPSC's food pantry is fully stocked! If you or someone you know would benefit from our pantry, please do not hesitate to call our office or just stop in! There is no income verification necessary to use our food pantry. We are happy to serve you today.

Take a Ride with Senior Transportation!
For more than 35 years, the CAPSC Senior Transportation Program has been providing quality transportation services to Strafford County residents, allowing them to maintain independence in their daily lives. The Senior Transportation Program provides door-to-door, on demand transportation for Strafford County residents aged 60 and over. You can go to grocery stores, shopping plazas and pharmacies in the area. We cannot offer rides for medical appointments.

CAPSC has partnered with TripLink for scheduling riders for our transportation routes. This partnership allows us to offer our riders:
Subscription scheduling - If you like to ride the same route (or routes) each week, you will no longer need to call us every time you would like a ride. When you call TripLink, they will identify the route (or routes) that are available to you. Just let them know that you would like to be on that same route each week, and you will be added to the weekly ride manifest.  If for some reason you need to cancel a ride, just call TripLink. They will cancel the ride for that day, but you will remain on the “regular” ride list.

Reminder calls - You will receive a reminder call from TripLink the night before your ride is scheduled.

Access to other area transportation services – Through TripLink, you can find out if you are eligible for transportation services through other providers such as Ready Rides, COAST ADA Paratransit and Community Rides.
To schedule a ride, you will need to call TripLink at 603-834-6010 by 11:00am the day before you would like to ride.
Summer Meals 2022
When school lets out for the summer, CAPSC is there to provide food for children in need. Through the federal Summer Food Service Program, we offer free breakfast and lunch to children up to age 18 (including babies and toddlers) at specific sites throughout the county. Each year CAPSC serves over 40,000 free and nutritious meals to children at numerous sites throughout Strafford County over the summer.

We are excited to be back to normal operations after facing the challenges of the past two years. This means we’ll get to sit and eat with children at these sites for each meal. Unfortunately, take-away meals will not be available. Look for our CAPSC vehicles and bright green “Free Meals” flags around town and check back in for updates throughout the season.
With questions about Summer Meals, please contact Patty Menard,
Food Services Supervisor, at pmenard@straffordcap.org.

Agency News and Updates
CAPSC's 56th Annual Meeting
CAPSC celebrated our 56th Annual Meeting on May 12th. It was a beautiful morning honoring the work CAPSC has done over the past year. We cannot thank our community enough for making it such a wonderful morning!
This meeting brings together CAPSC staff and community members that have worked in partnership over the year to combat poverty in Strafford County.
At the meeting, two awards are given out. The Champion Award which recognizes a community partner, organization, or individual who embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes Strafford County a better place for everyone, and the Mission Award which honors an outstanding CAPSC staff member who embodies the mission and vision of the agency.

This year, the Champion Award went to the school districts of Dover, Farmington, Milton, Rochester, Somersworth, and Wakefield for their dedication to keeping students fed throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and remote learning. This truly was a whole community project! Our cooks, bus drivers, student volunteers, and school staff were all an integral part of this effort.

Click and watch the video below that celebrates our Champion Award winners: Dover, Farmington, Milton, Rochester, Somersworth, and
Wakefield School Districts.
The Mission Award recipient was Pat Meattey. Pat has taken on many roles in her past 36 years at CAPSC, but serves right now as the Head Start Planning Manager. Pat is regarded by her peers as brilliant, caring, and a hard worker. After 36 years, Pat will be retiring this year. All of us at CAPSC wish her the best in her new adventures with her family and friends.
