Take Action: Local Taxes on Vacant Residential Property
House Bill 26-1036 regarding local taxes on vacant residential property will now be heard Monday, February 9 or soon thereafter.
We will share updates and additional details once we receive them.
Bill Summary:
• Allows counties or municipalities (with voter approval) to tax vacant residential properties
• Tax revenues may only be used for affordable, attainable, or workforce housing
• Enables the formation of joint housing tax authorities across jurisdictions
• County assessors are not required to implement the tax, but may assist at their discretion
Once the new hearing is posted, anyone wishing to testify will need to sign up again for the rescheduled hearing. Information will also be posted on the Colorado General Assembly’s website.

What you MUST include (Per the Colorado Real Estate Commission):
- Your name, brokerage and team name in advertising.
- Also include your email address and/or phone number.
Advertising MUST include (displayed clearly and prominently):
- Full, legal name of the brokerage firm with which you are licensed.
- For individual brokers, your name must be included in advertisements.
- When advertising as a team, the team name is used, but the legal name of the brokerage firm must also be included.

What CAN NOT be included in the VMLS Broadcast Email:
Links to personal or brokerage websites, property listing sites, social media, etc... can not be included.
Also, link text, such as 'www.brokersite.com.'
Web links are not allowed in your Broadcast Email. This is to help protect users from sharing compensation info, which is prohibited per NAR and MLS regulations.
Emails with links will be delayed from sending until corrected. Delayed senders will get an email notification letting them know the reason.
