Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CASA Program's pinwheel event scheduled on April 3rd will be re-scheduled to a date in the future. The CASA Program will "Go Blue" on CASALasVegas Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Help us raise awareness about child abuse by sharing, tagging and creating posts related to April's Child Abuse Prevention Month. Stay safe and practice social distancing. We're in this together.
AN UPDATE FROM THE CASA PROGRAM

The CASA program staff of the Eighth Judicial District Court extends our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to anyone who may be experiencing personal or professional hardships due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Life as many of us knew it, changed very rapidly, with very little advanced notice or preparation. Some people were displaced from jobs, some had to self-quarantine for prevention purpose, while many were forced to enter into a digital or virtual world, in order to stay functional and complete day to day tasks.

These unprecedented times are challenging for everyone, but especially for some of our most vulnerable population of children, those who are placed in the foster care system. Due to the lack of traditional routines or resources, i.e., therapy, family visitations, and after school activities, as well as having to practice social distancing and self-quarantining protocols, these children may experience additional trauma. That’s why ongoing advocacy for children is more critical than ever before.
A MESSAGE FROM JUVENILE HEARING MASTER MARGARET PICKARD

BE AN ACTION HERO

Connection is the basis of all human existence. It is the foundation for love, growth, encouragement, hope, and safety. However, during the current State of Emergency in Nevada, due to the COVID-19 quarantine, everyone is asked to “Stay Home for Nevada.” For a youth in foster care, that directive can be particularly isolating, as contact with their family and friends will be limited to video conferencing and phone calls. This next few weeks will be a particularly crucial time for CASA Volunteers to reach out to their youth with a phone call or a text and let them know that someone is thinking about them.
While in-person connections may be limited at this time, reaching out by sending a card or a care package, making a phone call or sending a quick text, will be particularly meaningful for a youth who receives very little contact from their family of origin. We can probably all remember a time in our life when we felt alone and needed to know that someone cared. For a foster child, that experience can happen on a daily basis. Having one person who takes the time to consistently connect can make all the difference in the world.
