The Importance of Preserving Sibling Relationships
More than 3,000 children live in foster care in Clark County, Nevada each year. Unfortunately, approximately 45% of these children are not able to be placed in home with their siblings, who have often been the only consistent person in their lives. This break in their sibling relationships, which is devastating to most children, is even more difficult during the current quarantine imposed by the COVID 19 state of emergency. While every effort is made to provide weekly regular sibling contact during times of normalcy, sibling visitation under the quarantine is limited to Skype, Facetime, Zoom, or phone calls. It is vital that CASA volunteers reach out to their youth and ensure that sibling visitation, in any form, continues during the quarantine period.
