March 2018
One Fact You Need to Know:
Child Advocates works with foster children ages 0-21
In California, youth in foster care can continue to receive services through the system after their 18th birthday as long as they are in school or working. Our CASAs help older teens fill out college applications, apply for scholarships, and prepare for job interviews.
Former Foster Youth Shares Spotlight with Judge and County Supervisor
Kudos to Larissa, a former foster youth, for speaking at a press conference in February with Judge Leonard Edwards (ret.), and Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez about the importance of placing foster children with relatives whenever possible. The recommendation is patterned after Los Angeles County's kinship support program that significantly changed the odds for foster youth succeeding when placed with relatives.
March is Women's History Month
During Women's History month, we celebrate Nora Manchester! In 1986, Nora co-founded Child Advovcates - Santa Clara County’s Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program and served as Child Advocates’ first Executive Director for 12 years.

Spring Event a Big Success!
Spring Event Raises More Than $360,000
Our Saturday Night Fever Spring Event  on March 10th was a groovy, disco-dancing night to remember! The event raised more than $360,000 to help us provide advocacy services to hundreds of Santa Clara County foster children on our waitlist!

One of the evening highlights was when Wayne, a foster youth, spoke about the impact of the CASA program.

Stories from the Work: Ron and Emmanuel
Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Ron Fairchild first met Emmanuel when he was a 12-year-old,struggling with peer issues in the 6th grade.  Most CASA’s cases last about a year, but Ron has been advocating for Emmanuel for 8 years.
