BUTTERFLY'S HAVEN + CASA/LA PARTNERSHIP
CASA/LA is excited to announce our new partnership with Butterfly’s Haven, a housing community for expectant and parenting youth who are involved, or have children involved, in the dependency system. This partnership is special because it's not a group home or transitional shelter placement. It is a community that will allow young mothers to build up their independent living skills while surrounded by support from their peers and culturally relevant services.
If you are working with an expectant and/or parenting youth between the age of 18-21 with a child or children under the age of 7 in need of housing, please have them complete the Butterfly's Haven resident application. The housing is currently for female-identifying youth only.

Kudos to the Essential History Team of Volunteers
|
|
We received glowing feedback from a CLC attorney expressing their appreciation for volunteers Karen McKendrick and Krystal Kennedy and the CASA/LA Essential History program and the impact it made on the youth's case.
"If you could help share our gratitude with the essential history team, please let them know how valuable their work has been and continues to be. We were quickly able to get a lot of people on the defense team up to speed on John’s background. This was especially helpful as defense was able to reference the inconsistencies in his placements, support, and education - as well as call out that none of DCFS’s reports mentioned a single piece of John’s background and the trauma he’s experienced. Nor did they note any of his strengths."
Thank you to all of our Essential History CASAs for making a difference!

Want to see CASA/LA Serve More Youth?
Time and time again, we have seen the power of CASAs telling authentic stories of advocacy. From a volunteer recruitment perspective, hearing personal testimonials about CASA advocacy and its impact on youth and volunteers alike can be just the right catalyst to inspire a community member to sign up as a CASA volunteer.
We are looking for volunteers, who are enthusiastic about their advocacy, to support CASA/LA by engaging folx at community events. You'll join our recruitment and outreach team and spend your time talking with individuals about your experience as a volunteer, answering questions, and providing information about how to get involved.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact our Manager of Recruitment and Outreach, Angela Daughtry to sign up.
