National Nursing Week (NNW) is the annual celebration of nurses in Canada. This year, CASN celebrates the powerful impact of nursing education on transforming health care. CASN has organized several events, initiatives, and resources to allow you to join us in celebrating NNW 2026 from May 11 to 17, 2026.

National Nursing Week – Advancing Equity Through Decentralized Nursing Education
Free Webinar: May 12, 2026, 12:00 PM ET
As part of the 2026 National Nursing Week theme The Power of Nurses to Transform Health, CASN invites you to a timely webinar featuring Dr. Leigh Chapman, Canada’s Chief Nursing Officer, and Amanda Egert, PhD in Nursing student at Trinity Western University and Associate Dean at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Together, they will discuss how decentralized nursing education can advance equity across Canada’s health care system.
Enabling learners to learn where they live is a powerful strategy for strengthening nursing education and building a sustainable workforce—particularly in rural and remote communities. This webinar will highlight key insights on the current landscape of decentralized nursing education in Canada and identify emerging opportunities for its support and sustainability. Time is planned for discussion and engagement in a national conversation on this topic.
Language notice: The presentation will occur in English with simultaneous translation in French available via Wordly. Questions and comments are welcome in both languages.

Dans le cadre du thème de la Semaine nationale des soins infirmiers 2026, Le pouvoir des infirmières et infirmiers de transformer la santé, l’ACESI vous invite à un webinaire d’actualité mettant en vedette Leigh Chapman, infirmière en chef du Canada, et Amanda Egert, doctorante en sciences infirmières à la Trinity Western University et doyenne associée au British Columbia Institute of Technology. Ensemble, elles discuteront de la manière dont la formation infirmière décentralisée peut favoriser l’équité à l’échelle du système de santé canadien.
Permettre aux apprenantes et apprenants d’étudier là où ils vivent constitue une stratégie puissante pour renforcer la formation en sciences infirmières et bâtir un effectif durable, en particulier dans les communautés rurales et éloignées. Red Dress Day, a National Day of Awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S), is observed annually on May 5.
On this day, we commemorate and honour the memories and legacies of Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people who have gone missing or been murdered across Canada. The red dress symbolizes pain and loss, and represents the ongoing commitment to advocate for justice for Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people affected by this ongoing crisis.

Processes, Experiences, and Outcomes Associated With Accommodation and Nursing Students With Disabilities: A Scoping Review (en anglais seulement)

More accessible nursing programs for a broader segment of society, including students with disabilities, will enhance diversity of thought in program curricula and representation among nurse graduates. We completed a scoping review that explored what is known from existing literature about the processes, experiences, and outcomes associated with classroom and clinical accommodation for nursing students with disabilities from the perspectives of learners and educators. The experience of accommodation for nursing students ranges from worrisome to supportive, while faculty experiences are similarly varied: feelings range from skepticism and internal struggle to acceptance and willingness. No standardized process and no universally accepted target outcome exist for the accommodation process. Evidence is needed to ensure the process promotes equitable and inclusive experiences for nursing students with disabilities and supports nurse educators in managing their primary role through ample resources and professional development opportunities.

Traduction et adaptation de la théorie des stades de transition des infirmières et infirmiers nouvellement diplômés : une ressource francophone pour l’intégration de la relève (in French only)

La transition des études à la pratique professionnelle est un processus complexe et unique à chaque infirmière ou infirmier nouvellement diplômé (IND). Confrontée à la réalité de la pratique clinique, l’IND éprouve fréquemment des émotions négatives telles que le doute, la confusion, la perte de confiance et la désorientation, contribuant au choc de transition. Cet article présente la traduction, l’adaptation au contexte francophone québécois et la validation de la théorie des stades de transition de Duchscher (2008). Une démarche en quatre étapes a été réalisée, adaptée des recommandations de Sousa & Rojjanasrirat (2011) et des travaux de Lavoie et al. (2021). La théorie présente la transition comme un processus de transformation non linéaire et non strictement progressif, au cours duquel l’IND évolue sur les plans personnel et professionnel à travers trois stades : savoir-faire, savoir-être et savoir-devenir. La discussion porte sur quatre aspects, soit les considérations méthodologiques ayant guidé le processus de traduction et d’adaptation, les limites de la portée théorique, l’évolution des pratiques d’intégration et leurs implications pour la théorie, et finalement l’application de la théorie dans la pratique.

Woodend Clinical Education Research Grant
CASN is offering the Woodend Clinical Education Research Grant to fund a graduate (master’s or doctoral) student’s research project ($5,000) focusing on clinical practice education encompassing clinical placements and a variety of innovative approaches to experiential learning for undergraduate nursing students.
Funding: Up to $5,000 for 1 year

L’ACESI offre la Subvention de recherche en formation clinique Woodend afin de financer le projet de recherche (5 000 $) d’une ou d’un étudiant (à la maitrise ou au doctorat). CASN is offering one Pat Griffin Research Grant to support research that addresses Nursing Education Innovation. There will be one grant available per calendar year, worth $15,000.
The principal investigator must be faculty at a CASN member school and be ready to implement the project on July 2, 2026.
