Nursing Retention Toolkit
A Primer for Nursing Students, Nursing Faculty, and Nurse Educators

The Nursing Retention Toolkit: Improving the Working Lives of Nurses in Canada is aimed at improving nursing retention through workforce initiatives and evidence-based practices. Nursing retention requires actions across all sectors, including nursing education. By addressing student attrition in nursing education, preparing resilient and safe nurses, and supporting a successful transition to practice, nursing education is a key contributor to nursing retention. This panel presentation from Dr. Leigh Chapman (Canada's Chief Nursing Officer), Eyasu Yakob (former CNSA President), and Dr. Jean Daniel Jacob (Executive Director, CASN) breaks down key opportunities and challenges for students and educators in utilizing the toolkit.

Course and Webinar Proposal
The Canadian Nurse Educators Institute (CNEI) offers professional development courses and webinars for nurse educators to further ongoing learning and professional development.
The CNEI Advisory Board is now accepting proposals from educators who wish to present a continuing education course or webinar through CNEI in the next academic year.
Continuing education courses consist of three to four live online sessions of 2 hours each presented over 2 to 4 weeks, with the Moodle LMS for activities and content. Live webinars are 1-to-2-hour live Zoom events that are free for participants. All content is provided online.

L’Institut canadien des infirmières et infirmiers enseignants (ICIE) offre des cours de formation continue et des webinaires pour les infirmières et infirmiers enseignants afin de faire avancer l’apprentissage continu et le perfectionnement professionnel.
Le conseil consultatif de l’ICIE accepte désormais les soumissions de propositions de la part de professeures et professeurs qui souhaitent présenter un cours de formation continue ou un webinaire par l’entremise de l’ICIE au cours de la prochaine année universitaire.
Les cours de formation continue consistent en trois à quatre séances en ligne en direct de deux heures chacune présentées sur une période de deux à quatre semaines, avec le système de gestion de l’apprentissage Moodle pour les activités et le contenu. Les webinaires en direct sont des activités d’une à deux heures, offerts gratuitement sur Zoom. Tout le contenu est disponible en ligne.

Woodend Clinical Education Research Grant
The Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing is offering the Woodend Clinical Education Research Grant to fund a graduate (master’s or doctoral) student’s research project ($5,000) focusing on clinical practice education encompassing clinical placements and a variety of innovative approaches to experiential learning for undergraduate nursing students.
Funding: up to $5,000 for one year
Deadline for submission: May 2, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) EDT
Date that funds will be released: July 1, 2025

L’Association canadienne des écoles de sciences infirmières offre la Subvention de recherche en formation clinique Woodend à l’appui d’un projet de recherche (5 000 $) d’une étudiante ou d’un étudiant (à la maitrise ou au doctorat). Le projet doit être axé sur la formation fondée sur la pratique clinique, comprenant des stages cliniques et un éventail d’approches novatrices d’apprentissage par l’expérience des étudiantes et étudiants de premier cycle en sciences infirmières.

2025 Annual Pat Griffin Research Grant
CASN is offering one Pat Griffin Research Grant to support research that addresses the research priority of “Nursing Education Outcomes” from the National Research Priorities for Nursing. There will be one grant available per calendar year, worth $15,000. The principal investigator must be faculty at a CASN member school and be ready to implement the project on July 1, 2025.

CPHA is looking for nursing, social work and medicine students to participate in an exciting research opportunity!
The Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) and its collaborators have developed an online course designed to support family physicians and other clinical care providers to increase their comfort in discussing sexuality, substance use and sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBI) and to create more welcoming and inclusive service environments. We are recruiting medicine, nursing, and social work students for a study to evaluate the course and inform future updates. It's a chance for us, with your support, to lead the way in making healthcare more inclusive and understanding! Please note that this study is only available in English. Students will be invited to complete the online course (~4 hours), a pre and post course survey (~20 min), and a three month follow up survey (~10 min). Participants will be entered in a draw to win one of four $100 VISA gift cards at each stage. Students may be assigned to a control group, meaning they will be invited to complete all surveys before being provided access to the course in June 2025. Click here to sign up!
This study has been approved by the University of Toronto Research Ethics Board (protocol #00046315). Sign up is open now and access to the online course will begin in February 2025.
