CASN and CNEI Gerontology/Long-Term Care Educator Interest Group announces the release of the Gero Hub Educational Resource Matrix.

The Gero Hub Resource Matrix provides nursing educators with links to teaching-learning tools that can assist with curriculum development and course content aligning with the CASN Entry-to-Practice Gerontological Care Competencies for Baccalaureate Programs in Nursing (2017).
The majority of the over 45 gerontological nursing education resources are open-access and include e-learning courses and modules, practice guidelines and recorded webinar links on important topics relevant to the care of older people and applicable across healthcare sectors such as: ageism, communication, cannabis and substance use, family caregivers, people-centred care, health promotion, dementia, cognitive impairment, altered/responsive behaviours, geriatric mental health, geriatric syndromes (cognitive impairment, delirium, continence, pain, mobility, etc.), end-of-life care, equity and diversity, care of Indigenous elders, nursing leadership, and enhancing care culture. Several of the resources are in French. Faculty and course instructors can select relevant materials and embed them into their teaching. Learners can download certificates of completion from several of the sites.

Call for Expressions of Interest: Writing Group for a Book on the History of Nursing Education in Canada
CASN is seeking expressions of interest for joining a writing group for a book on the history of nursing education in Canada. The text will be a comprehensive history of nursing education in Canada that includes previously omitted histories and critically examines established narratives and ways of thinking. This project will develop and use a collaborative process to conceive of and write the text.

Appel de manifestations d’intérêt : groupe de rédaction en lien avec le livre sur l’histoire de la formation en sciences infirmières au Canada
L’ACESI est à la recherche de personnes susceptibles d’être intéressées par la participation à un groupe de rédaction en lien avec un livre traitant de l’histoire de la formation en sciences infirmières au Canada. Ce texte consistera en une histoire compréhensive de la formation infirmière au Canada qui comprendra des histoires auparavant omises et examinera de manière critique les connaissances et les manières de penser établies. Ce projet permettra de développer et d’utiliser un processus collaboratif pour concevoir et rédiger le texte.

Promoting Equitable, Affirming, and Inclusive Environments for 2S LGBTQAI+ Nursing Students
CASN is pleased to announce the release of Promoting Equitable, Affirming, and Inclusive Environments for 2S LGBTQAI+ Nursing Students: Guidelines for Canadian Schools of Nursing.
This document, produced by the CASN Committee on Advancing SOGIESC Equity and Success, offers a set of guidelines that promote equitable, affirming, and inclusive environments for nursing students who are Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual, or intersex and/or belong to additional marginalized sexual or gender identities (2S LGBTQAI+).
All nursing students in Canada deserve to learn in an environment free from discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC).

New free online training course on Climate Change, Migration, and Health
The Quebec Population Health Research Network (QPHRN) is pleased to announce the launch of the CLIMIGRANT, a free online training course exploring the intersections of climate change, migration, and health. Climate change and environmental degradation are one of the major challenges of our time. They represent one of the greatest threats to the health of populations and are the cause of migratory movements/forced displacements that are set to increase, whether at international or local level. Understanding these phenomena requires a global vision, and in particular an interdisciplinary one.
The self-paced course (estimated duration 8 hours), enables you to obtain a generic certificate when you have completed the training that can be used to continuing education. This training is available in both English and French.
The course is open to all! It is aimed primarily at nurses, researchers, students, clinicians and other healthcare professionals, stakeholders, decision-makers and other interested parties.

Nouvelle formation en ligne gratuite sur les changements climatiques, les migrations et la santé
Le Réseau de recherche en santé des populations du Québec (RRSPQ) est heureux d’annoncer le lancement de CLIMIGRANT, une formation en ligne gratuite portant sur les liens entre les changements climatiques, les migrations et la santé. Les changements climatiques et la dégradation de l’environnement représentent l’un des plus grands défis de notre époque. Ils constituent une menace majeure pour la santé des populations et sont à l’origine de déplacements forcés et de mouvements migratoires appelés à s’intensifier, tant à l’échelle locale qu’internationale. Comprendre ces phénomènes nécessite une vision globale, et surtout interdisciplinaire.
La formation, d’une durée estimée de 8 heures et pouvant être suivie à votre rythme, permet d’obtenir un certificat générique de formation continue à la fin du parcours. Elle est offerte en français et en anglais.
La formation est ouverte à toutes et tous! Elle s’adresse en priorité aux infirmières et infirmiers, chercheurs, étudiants, cliniciens et autres professionnels de la santé, ainsi qu’aux décideurs, parties prenantes et toute personne intéressée.

Hello everyone,
My name is Danika Paquette, and I am a Master’s student in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa. I am conducting a research project under the supervision of Dr. Karen Phillips to document perspectives on perinatal-wildfire health knowledge and experiences. The study also aims to assess their ability to guide on wildfire-related perinatal health risks with perinatal patients.
The primary goal is to document healthcare professionals’ perspectives on perinatal-wildfire health knowledge and experiences and to assess their ability to provide guidance related to wildfire-related perinatal health risks during consultations with perinatal patients.
We are recruiting healthcare providers for a 30-minute survey. The ethical aspects of this project have been reviewed and approved by the uOttawa REB. This study seeks to recruit healthcare providers who meet the following inclusion criteria:
- Are you 18 years and older?
- Do you work with pregnant people in Canada?
To encourage participation in this study, the findings will be made available to all participants through the PEHE (Perinatal Environmental Health Education) website. Given the current absence of specific Canadian guidelines addressing the health risks of wildfire exposure for pregnant individuals, we believe that sharing insights into the quality and variety of advice currently being offered can serve as a valuable resource.

Je m'appelle Danika Paquette et je suis étudiante à la maîtrise en Sciences de la Santé Interdisciplinaire à l'Université d'Ottawa. Je mène un projet de recherche sous la supervision de la Dre Karen Phillips, dont l'objectif principal est de documenter les perspectives des professionnels de la santé sur leurs connaissances liées à la santé périnatale en contexte de feux de forêt.
L’objectif principal est de documenter les points de vue des professionnels de la santé sur les connaissances et les expériences en matière d’évaluer leur capacité à fournir des conseils sur les risques pour la santé périnatals liés aux incendies de forêt lors de consultations avec des patients périnatals.
Les aspects éthiques de ce projet ont été examinés et approuvés par le CER de l'Université d'Ottawa. Nous recrutons des professionnels de la santé pour un sondage de 30 minutes répondant aux critères d’inclusion suivants :
- Avez-vous 18 ans et plus?
- Travaillez-vous en santé périnatale au Canada?
Pour encourager la participation des professionnels de la santé à cette étude, les résultats seront diffusés à tous les participants par l’entremise du site Web de PEHE (Perinatal Environmental Health Education). Preceptorship is essential to support the undergraduate nursing student’s transition to the new graduate nurse role. Preceptors make this transition possible through their feedback and commitment to student learning.
Funded by the Western Northwestern Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing, Dr. Monique Sedgwick (University of Lethbridge) and Dr. Kerry Lynn Durnford (Aurora College) are exploring the feedback experience within the preceptorship relationship of BIPOC, non-Christian, neurodivergent, LGBTQIA2S+, international (non-domestic), English as a second language, and students with a disability and/or their preceptors.
Individual interviews via the virtual Teams platform will be used, taking about 30-45 minutes of your time.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE:
- New graduates who identify with at least one group listed above and who completed their preceptorship in Alberta
- Preceptors in Alberta who have preceptored students who identified with one of the above groups.
The findings of this study will help nursing programs to develop strategies rooted in an equity, diversity, and inclusion perspective when teaching preceptors about feedback. Recommendations will also be made to the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing for the purpose of providing foundational information for the development of preceptor competencies regarding feedback when precepting vulnerable students.

UCalgary and Mount Royal University to co-host global nursing conference on pressing public health issues in Calgary July 28-30
The 7th International Global Network of Public Health Nursing Conference will take place from July 28 to 30 at the MacEwan Hall Conference Centre on the UCalgary campus. The University of Calgary’s Faculty of Nursing and Mount Royal University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery will co-host public health nurses from across the globe to address some of the world’s pressing public and population health issues.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Building resilience and innovative solutions: Amplifying impact and advancing positive global public health change.” Areas of focus will include leveraging partnerships to tackle global health security, healthy recovery after COVID-19, global leadership on population data science and how this impacts public health initiatives, and climate and environmental change.
Attendees will hear from keynote speakers like Dr. Leigh Chapman, the chief nursing officer at Health Canada, Howard Catton, the CEO of the International Council of Nurses, and Dr. Salimah Walani, the dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the Aga Khan University.
GNPHN is a global network of public health nurses, health visitors and community nurses working in public health nursing with a focus on strengthening practice, policy, research, leadership, and education.
