The CASN Community Health Educators Interest Group (CHEIG) has identified the COVID-related loss of community clinical opportunities and placements as of profound concern. The erosion of community health content in curricula across Canadian schools of nursing has been ongoing.

Faculty involved in teaching community health nursing theory and clinical courses are invited to participate in a survey about community/population health nursing education entitled “Mapping of Community/Population Health Nursing Education in Canada”.

The purpose of this survey is to gather information about theory and clinical teaching of community/population health nursing in Canadian schools of nursing.

If you have previously completed the survey we kindly ask that you consider completing it again with the consent process included for research purposes.

No Shortcuts - Caring for Quality Nurse Education

September 28, 2021 – CASN issued a statement addressing the current state of health human resources in Canada, specifically in response to the current nurse shortages reported across the nation.

Nursing is a highly specialized, complex, and skilled profession, and as the national voice for nursing education in Canada, CASN would like to make it clear to governments and its public health care partners that there are no shortcuts to educating competent and qualified nurses. Quality nursing education cannot be sacrificed, exchanged, or accelerated without serious consequences.
