Presented by the CASN Community Health Nurse Educators Interest Group
Free webinar: Strengthening Community Health Nursing Education in Canada
Ce webinaire est offert en anglais seulement.
April 29, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. ET (Ontario/Quebec)
In early 2021, the Community Health Nurse Educators Interest Group of CASN, made up of over 30 community health educators across the country, engaged in discussions concerning the erosion of community health nursing (CHN) and population health content and practice placements in Canadian undergraduate nursing programs. We discovered that our shared concerns were valid and that while the erosion commenced ahead of the pandemic, a disturbing trend emerged during the pandemic with population health placements being switched to acute care placements and replaced with simulation learning experiences. In this webinar, interest group members will discuss key findings from the research study and share a companion document developed to accompany the CASN National Education Framework. The companion document aims to provide examples and detailed learning outcomes specific to community health nursing that educators can use to strengthen curriculum and learning opportunities relating to community health nursing. *The views and opinions expressed by the members of the Nurse Educator Interest Groups (CASN) do not necessarily reflect the views of CASN.

The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) and Nursing The Future (NTF) have joined forces to support new graduate and early-career nurses as they transition into the workforce. This collaboration highlights CNA’s commitment to workforce retention, professional development, and strengthening Canada’s nursing profession.
Without adequate support, many new nurses leave the profession within two years. NTF offers peer networks, leadership training, mental health and education resources to improve retention and build a more stable workforce.
By combining CNA’s national reach with NTF’s expertise, the partnership aims to enhance transition support, improve patient care outcomes, and sustain the nursing workforce. “Enculturating new graduate nurses is key to our health-care system’s sustainability,” said Dr. Valerie Grdisa, CEO of CNA.
Watch for our ongoing collaborations including the upcoming NTFLive seminar exploring CNA certification and specialty associations on April 30, 2025. Follow our social media spaces to stay connected!
Together, CNA and NTF are committed to fostering a resilient, well-supported nursing workforce. Learn more at www.nursingthefuture.ca.
