Alexandra Lombard, 2018 Cohort
In the summer of 2018, we launched a project at CASP 101 (our summer transition program), that we call the CASP Living Archive. For the Living Archive, we interviewed and recorded individual student's personal narratives.

These interviews were held before their first Fall quarter as UCSD students and we will offer them the opportunity to be interviewed again before they graduate from UCSD. All interviews published as part of this series are with the permission of the students.

CommencementSpeakerAPPLY TO BE AN ALL CAMPUS COMMENCEMENT STUDENT SPEAKER

The All Campus Commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. at RIMAC Field. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.

This year's commencement is inspired by All Campus Commencement keynote speaker, Madeleine Albright, who shattered the glass ceiling to become the first woman to serve as secretary of state and an icon of American diplomacy. Former Secretary of State Albright is a testament to the positive impact that collaboration, discovery, and public service can have on our global world-strengths shared by our Triton community.

The allotted time for the speech is five minutes. Well-received speeches are often personal reflections on the educational and communal experience at UC San Diego that inspire graduates to continue living the UC San Diego philosophy out in the world.

The Commencement Student Speaker Selection Committee will review applications and invite candidates to present their proposed speech in person.

Click here to fill out the required form, answer all questions, and check that you meet the requirements.

ChavezCelebrationCÉSAR E. CHÁVEZ UC SAN DIEGO CELEBRATION

In celebration of the life and achievements of César E. Chávez and in conjunction with the California State holiday, UC San Diego presents a month-long series of events.

César E. Chávez (born César Estrada Chávez, March 31, 1927 - April 23, 1993) was an American farm worker, labor leader and civil rights activist, who, with Dolores Huerta, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association (later the United Farm Workers union, UFW). President Barack Obama proclaimed March 31 as César E. Chávez Day in the United States, with Americans being urged to observe this day with appropriate service, community, and educational programs to honor César E. Chávez's enduring legacy of nonviolent social change and service to others.

Although March 31th is not a federal holiday, California observes César E. Chávez Day by closing schools and state offices.

SLSDISCOVER THE LAW PROGRAM WITH STUDENT LEGAL SERVICES
Discover the Law is a legal education program comprised of a series of 39 workshops on law-related topics.  It is designed to educate students about their rights and responsibilities, inform them about different areas of law, provide tips on how to jump start their career whether in law or another profession, and teach practical ways to stay savvy and safe.

This is a great opportunity for students thinking of applying to law school, but students need not be considering a career in law to participate. Discover the Law is not offered for academic credit.

You may wish to participate in Discover the Law because:

* By attending just four of the 39 workshops on 33 different topics, you will earn a certificate that demonstrates your commitment to learning more about the law and law-related issues.
* You will gain practical knowledge that will help you avoid legal problems.
* You will enhance your resume or graduate school application.
* You will get to connect with professionals and other students interested in law and law-related topics.
* It's free, and you don't have to leave campus to participate!
